Juanita E. Matejcek, 69

Juanita E. Matejcek, 69, of Owatonna, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at her home in Owatonna. 

She was born January 28, 1943 on the family farm in Geneva Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota the daughter of Ferris and Eleanor (Hojberg) Peterson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Geneva Lutheran Church.  She attended country school and Blooming Prairie High School.  Juanita then worked as a nanny for a family in Owatonna for several years.  She married Burgess Matejcek in October of 1963.  They had three children, Randy, Lori, and Marcia.  They later divorced.  She worked for Cedar Valley Services for many years, cleaned elderly women’s homes, and did foster care.

Memorial Services for John Arvid Westeng of Albert Lea will be held at 10 a.m. on

Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea.  The Reverend

Todd Walsh will officiate.  Interment will be in Hartland Cemetery.

Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations.

John died on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Home.  He was 94.

Allan Mark Sletten, 51

Allan Mark Sletten, 51, of Ellendale, died Friday, August 31, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital. 

Allan was born September 1, 1960 in Cooperstown, North Dakota, the son of Ferdinand and JoAnn (Paddock) Sletten. He attended grade school in Valley City, ND and in 1973, the family moved to Austin where he attended high school. Following school, Allan worked for Walker Feeders in Hayfield, the Foundry in Albert Lea, Hormel Institute in Austin, Dave’s Disposal in Owatonna and for the past 31 years Allan worked for Hydro-AX, now Caterpillar, as a programmer and machinist. He was united in marriage to Kari Kubista on November 23, 1988 in Owatonna.

Edythe Mae Brandenburg, 95

Memorial services for Edythe Mae Brandenburg of Mankato, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Pastor Scott Williams will officiate. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Richland, MN after which there will be a gathering at the church for lunch and sharing of memories.

Edythe died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Pathstone Crossing Home in Mankato, MN. She was 95 years of age.

Laurence V. Ruedy, 82

Laurence V. Ruedy, age 82 of Waseca, died on Monday, August 20, 2012, at Homestead Hospice in Owatonna.

 Born on August 9, 1930 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of Ward and Magdelena (Beck) Ruedy.  He attended rural Waseca County schools and graduated from Waseca Central High School as Salutatorian in 1948.  He married Georgena Klampe on June 7, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  After getting married he and his wife farmed in Waseca County for over 50 years, retiring from farming in 1992 to care for his ailing wife.  He enjoyed old-time dancing, square dancing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, Richland Squares, Steele Steppers and the Faribo Si Do square dance clubs.

Phyllis Irene Peterson, 79

Phyllis Irene Peterson, age 79 of New Richland, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Born on September 18, 1932 in Woodville Township, Waseca County, Minnesota she was the daughter of Levi and Helen (Naske) Robran. Phyllis graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1951. She married Rolland L. Peterson on February 21, 1953. Phyllis worked at the E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca and was also a nurse's aide at the New Richland Care Center and later Country Neighbors in New Richland, but her true passion was helping on the farm. She loved her gardens and yard and Phyllis especially loved cooking and baking and sharing the food that she made with others. She was an active member of Vista Covenant Church.

Arnold J. Knutson, 83

The funeral service for Arnold J. Knutson of rural Ellendale, Minnesota will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Ellendale. Reverend Cary Larson will officiate.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from  4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at  Zion Lutheran Church and one hour before the service at the church.

Arnold died at his home Sunday August 5, 2012. He was 83 years old.

Natalie A. Johnson, 72

Johnson, Natalie A., age 72, completed her life’s journey on August 4, 2012 in the care and presence of her husband and family. Her journey was cut short after a valiant 3 ½ year battle with cancer. She will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother and a very proud grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Dora Lund and brother Roger Palm. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Norman, son Jay, daughter Jill (Scott) Olson, grandsons Jack and Paul, sisters Darlene Abraham and Judy (Jeff) Mason and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Harold Muedeking, 93

Harold Herman Muedeking, age 93, formerly of Waseca, died on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on July 26, 1919, in Steele County near Meriden, he was the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Wabbrock) Muedeking. He attended rural school and was a farm laborer during his youth. At age 21, he began his career with the E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca. Harold married Irene Vogt on November 22, 1941, and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving 42 months with 34 months spent in North Africa and Italy. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to E.F. Johnson Co. becoming General Shop Foreman and retiring after 42 years. He and Irene enjoyed traveling, including Hawaii and England. Harold also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, woodworking, golfing, tinkering, and doing projects with the grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, the American Legion for 61 years, and the VFW.
