A Celebration of Life for John Paul Christensen, 38, of Ellendale, Minnesota will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea. The Reverend Matt Griggs will officiate. Interment will be in North Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4p.m.-8p.m. on Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Ellendale, and one hour before the service at the church.
On December 23rd, 2012, John went home to be with his Heavenly Father.
He was born on May 17, 1974, in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of John Christensen and Lynn Njos. Strong in faith, John had been baptized and then later confirmed at North Freeborn Lutheran Church. He graduated from Ellendale High School with the class of 1993, he continued on to obtain his degree from Riverland Technical College in Austin, MN. He married Erin Thorson on December 28, 2005 in Kauai, Hawaii.
Elmer M. Tatge, age 85, of Wells, MN, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Parkview Care Center in Wells, MN. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 24, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2012 from 1-3 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Pastor Kathy Fullarton will officiate and interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

After a sudden and serious illness, Harold Rodney Sybilrud, age 84, died on Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN.
Harold was born and lived his whole life in New Richland. After graduating from high school he served two years in the military at Robbins Air Force Base in Smyrna, GA. He married Ruth E. Clark of Kennesavv in 1952 and returned to Minnesota to farm with his father, Reuben.
Funeral services for Vernon M. (Vern) Olson of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Pastor Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Friedrich Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery, New Richland.
Vern died on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Owatonna Hospital. He was 66 years of age.
Vernon M. (Vern) Olson was born on November 29, 1946 to Evelyn and Orrin Olson in Waseca, MN.
He attended school in Ellendale. He was in the US Army entering in 1967. Vern was united in marriage to Janice Besser on May 24, 1969. They have been married for 43 years.
Verdell May Ludwitzke, age 78 of Cannon Falls and formerly of Winona and New Richland, died on Thursday morning, December 13, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Verdell was born on December 24, 1933 in New Richland, MN the daughter of George and Florence (Baumann) Billing. She graduated in 1951 from New Richland High School, and went on to Mankato State College. She graduated in 1960 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She married Dennis Ludwitzke on June 11, 1960 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland.
The funeral service for John O. Beyer of New Richland, Minnesota will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reverend Scott Williams will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be for 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Ardes L. Siemers, age 95, of Faribault, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Keystone Communities of Faribault.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault, with the Very Rev. James Zotalis, Rev. Henry Doyle, Deacon Bonnie Holt and the Rev. David Berggren, officiating. Interment will be held at the Groveland Cemetery in Dundas.
Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services on Monday.

Mae Viola Thompson O'Neal
May 2nd, 1920 to November 28th, 2012
A beautiful tiny baby girl, Mae Viola Thompson was born to George Arthur and Caroline Thompson on May 2, 1920, on their farm in Hartland Township.
Mae was confirmed and baptized at the Hartland Lutheran Church in Hartland, MN, attended country schools in both Hartland & Manchester townships & also Freeborn High School. Her Norwegian ancestors were of the people that built the churches of N. Freeborn County.
Mae shared fond memories of her childhood & cold wintry sleigh rides home from Grandparents, Bertram & Betsy Sybilrud's farm, located N. of Hartland, and also of picking raspberries and gooseberries as she walked through the woods of her Grandmother Arslog Thompson Lee's farm, located on the N. shore of Mule Lake.
Nora Newman, 92, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was born May 11, 1920, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, daughter of William and Belva (Russ) Patschke.
Nora served in the United States Army for three years as a nurse until her honorable discharge in 1946. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Des Moines, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Iowa Unit WBCCI and Highland Park Lutheran Church.
Elaine Lucille Soeldner, age 94 of Waseca died on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.
Born on June 20, 1918 in Springfield, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Joseph and Emilie (Schmidt) Schumacher. When her mother married Vinton Bird, they moved to New Richland where Elaine grew up and attended school. The family spent summers at a cabin on St. Olaf Lake, where Elaine loved to swim and play tennis. She graduated from New Richland High School in 1936 and Minneapolis Business College in 1938.

James “Jim” A. Bauman, age 79 of New Richland died on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his home.
Born on May 18, 1933 in Waseca, Minnesota he was the son of George A. and Fayette E. (Wobschall) Bauman. He attended rural Waseca County School District #46 and later earned his GED. Jim served in the US Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He married Joanne Schroeder on April 28, 1957 at the First Congregational Church in Waseca. Over the years he was employed at the EF Johnson Co. in Waseca, Herter’s in New Richland, and retired from Mustang (OMC) in Owatonna in 1998.
Zinna M. Finlayson, age 87, of Maple Grove, MN, died Friday, November 23. She was 87. Zinna was born and raised in New Richland.
She is survived by son, Gary (Colleen) Finlayson of Aitkin, MN; daughter, Diane Finlayson (Marty Calon) of Baltimore, MD; grandsons, Dustin (Megan) of Duluth and Matthew (Amanda Vogtlin) of Aitkin; great grandson, Teagan; brothers, William (Gladys) Miskoff of Hutchinson, MN and Victor (Marcella) Miskoff of Omaha, NE.
She is preceded in death by husband, Sidney; companion of many years, Dale Landon; sisters, Lola Hagen and Pola Jeddeloh.
She was a retired Postage Due Clerk at the Elmwood Branch Post Office, member of the Eagles and VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was active in the old-time dance community at the Medina Ballroom. A celebration of life will follow.
Elroy Utpadel, 76, of Owatonna, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 30th at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna, with the Reverend Julie Malone officiating.
Visitation will precede the funeral from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery.
Elroy was born on July 12, 1936, in Berlin Township, the eldest of four sons to Eldo and Cordelia (Verplank) Utpadel. He was united in marriage to Eileen (Cornelius) Utpadel, on April 17, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Geneva. They moved to California in 1956, and returned to Owatonna in 1994, where he currently resided.
Evelyn “Marie” Oseland age 94 of Crosby died on November 15, 2012 at her granddaughter’s home (Richard and Denise Olson) in rural Ellendale.
Marie was born on April 7, 1918 in rural Crosby to Carl and Ella (Miller) Peterson. She married Philip “Dan” Oseland on May 21, 1937 in Fairfield Township.
She was a resident near Lake Adney in rural Crosby for most of her life. She was co-owner and operated a fabric/dry goods store in Crosby. She also was a census worker.
Marie was a member of the Emily United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working as a church treasurer, Sunday school teacher and ladies aid member for many years.
