The funeral service for Constance Carrie Smidt will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Hartland, Minnesota. The Reverend Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be in the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.
Connie Smidt passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. She was 80 years old.
Gary Nordlie, 68, Of Owatonna and Lake Vermilion, passed away November 15, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born July 16, 1945 in La Crosse, WI to Norman and Oma (Nyseth) Nordlie.
Gary moved to Owatonna in 1958 and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart Carole Soukup on December 23, 1967 in Owatonna. He received his teaching degree from Mankato State University in 1968.
Gary taught English and Speech at New Richland High School until his retirement in 1998. He also coached track, weight lifting, cross country, and created the Oral Interp variety show.
Dale Franklin Hansen, 48, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at his home in Owatonna.
He was born December 11, 1964 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of LaVerne and Marlene (Wencl) Hansen. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1983. After high school, Dale worked at Happy Chef and Hart’s Bakery. He then went to work at Lakeside Foods where he worked his way up to Sanitation Supervisor. Dale worked there for over 27 years until a year ago when his health began to deteriorate.
Charles Irving “Chuck’ Toft, age 88, passed away at the Evergreens in Spring Valley, Minn., on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
Chuck was born January 31, 1925, in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Irvin and Cora (Gunderson) Toft. He was raised in Ellendale, Minn., where he was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 serving as a paratrooper in the Airborne during WW II in Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Margy Dene Sorenson on July 6, 1947, at the Hartland Lutheran Church in Hartland, Minn. He worked for Sorenson and Sons Trucking and farmed in the Ellendale, Hartland and Hayward area until moving to Spring Valley in 1958 to work for Ruan Transport Company. He retired from Ruan in 1987 and continued his passion for farming on his hobby farm outside of Spring Valley.
In Loving Memory of Teresa Marie Van Iperen
Teresa Van Iperen was born on July 31, 1962 in El Paso, Texas to Dale and Jeanette Raimann Wallace. That same year the family moved to Albert Lea, MN. In 1967 the family moved to New Richland, MN where Teresa graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School in 1980.
She went on to attend Mankato State University, graduating in 1985. She then made her home in Pemberton, MN. On June 4, 1994 she and Jerry Van Iperen were married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Saint Clair, MN. Teresa worked for Blue Earth County as a social worker in Mankato. Following their marriage they remained in Pemberton until 2001 when they moved to an acreage near Edgerton, MN. Teresa enjoyed the time she spent home schooling her boys.
Funeral services for Bonnie (Pollei) Kofstad, of Hartland, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Shawn Stafford will officiate. Interment will be in Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bonnie died Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the New Richland Care Center. She was 88 years old.
Bonnie was born January 12, 1925 to Henry and Emma (Randall) Pollei. She attended and graduated high school from Mankato. Following high school, Bonnie was united in marriage to LeRoy Kofstad on May 12, 1946. To this union, five children were born.

Bud passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the age of 87 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna after battling pulmonary fibrosis lung disease.

Long-time resident of Albert Lea, Mary Ann Dixen, age 90, passed away Saturday October 5, 2013. She had attended St. Olaf College and obtained her B.A. in economics, later returning to college at Mankato State University for her teaching credential in elementary education. She was a fourth grade teacher in Albert Lea for 20 years, retiring in 1985.
Mary Ann recognized the importance of education and continued that interest after retirement. She was instrumental in establishing the Albert Lea Area Schools Science Fair for students in grades 3 to 6 to promote interest in science, as well as serving as a judge for the students’ projects. As a former teacher she brought a valuable perspective to the School Board as a board member from 1986-1995 – including serving as chairperson.
JoAnn Marvel Johnson was born August 11, 1941, to Clifford and Marvel (Myhre) Johnson in New Richland, MN. She grew up and attended school and graduated from New Richland High School. She married Theodore Keller June 25, 1960. The couple had three children. JoAnn worked at Brown Printing at the same time for over 25 years. In October of 1984, Theodore passed away. However, in 1986, JoAnn married Robert Klitzke. The couple continued to live in Waseca and later moved to Pipestone and JoAnn worked for F.E.Y. Industries making calendars and other printed supplies. In 2006 Robert also passed away. Finally, in 2008, JoAnn moved to Brandon, SD. She continued working at Hy-Vee in Sioux Falls and for SMG, the concessions at the Arena.
Celebrating the life of Winn Ann Simser, age 73 of Fairmont, MN, formerly of New Richland, MN. Winn Ann passed away at home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 30, 2013.
Services will be held Thursday October 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday October 2, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service Thursday at St. John Vianney Church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Leone died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. She was 85.
Leone was born on January 8, 1928, in Nishnabotny Township, Iowa, the daughter of William and Meta (Schroeder) Hein. Her family moved to the Otisco area when she was a young girl.
Leone married Arthur J. Byrne on August 28, 1946 at the Meriden Lutheran Church.
