Ronald George Eckart, 80

Ronald George Eckart, 80, of Northfield, MN and formerly of Morgan, MN passed away July 30, 2014 at his home after a long battle with Parkinson ’s disease. The oldest of five children, he was born January 23, 1934 in Albert Lea, MN to Leo Glen Eckart and Meletha (Schendel) Eckart. He grew up in New Richland, MN, graduating from high school in 1952. While in high school and college, he worked for the local theater and for his dad in the ready mix business.

In his sophomore year at Mankato State, Ron along with his communication class was instrumental in starting the college radio station. He graduated from Mankato State in 1956 and took additional courses at Mankato, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and University of Duluth.

Norma Beyer, age 86, of Comfrey, MN died on August 12, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey and will continue on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the New Hope Lutheran Church.

Service will be held at the New Hope Lutheran Church on Friday, August 15, 2014, at 11 a.m.

The clergy will be Nehring, Pastor Brian. Interment will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near Wells, MN.

Annola Bertha Born, age 97 of Waseca died on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on September 29, 1916 in New Richland, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Chris and Alma (Christenson) Shurson. Annola graduated from New Richland High School and the Teacher’s Training Program in New Richland.

Funeral service is set for Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ellendale with Rev. Randy Cirksena presiding. Burial will commence at Berlin Township Cemetery in rural Steele County. Gladys M. (Hill) Winter, 96, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville. She was born October 20, 1917 to Joseph and Minnie (Seck) Hill in Clifford, N.D. In 1920 she and her family moved to a farm near Thompson, IA. Gladys graduated from High School in Rake, IA. On December 1, 1938 she was united in marriage to John Winter. In 1951 she and John moved to their farm east of Geneva, MN where they farmed, working side by side for over 50 years.

Richard L. Tracy, 71, resident of Lake Park, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24 at his home in Lake Park. 

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held Tuesday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. 

Dick was born in Lemmon, SD to James and Catherine Tracy. He attended school in Pine City and later moved to Dell Rapids, SD where he graduated. He then attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Inez died on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea.

LaRuen 'Larry' Johnson, 69

LaRuen “Larry” Johnson, 69, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Koda Living Community.

LaRuen was born April 18, 1945 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Lee and Alice (Olson) Johnson. He attended school in Hartland and then at Freeborn, graduating in 1963. He lived near Ellendale following high school. He was united in marriage to Betty Dobberstein on October 9, 1970 in New Richland. The couple lived in Owatonna where LaRuen worked for Harland Tires. Betty died January 11, 1993.

LaRuen owned and operated Service Master Commercial Cleaning in Owatonna. He was married to Lois Gossman on November 23, 1996 at St. JohnLutheran Church, Owatonna.  He sold his business in May 2011.

Curtis Dale Barnett, 55

Curtis Dale Barnett, age 55, formerly of Austin, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home in Waseca.

He was born April 3, 1959 to William and Marjorie (Hanson) Barnett in Austin, Minnesota where he grew up and attended school.

He began working with developmentally disabled individuals while he was in junior high school through a program at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was AHS football and basketball MVP in 1976 and 1977, played string bass in the AHS Orchestra and sang in the Austin Symphony Choir. He graduated from Austin High School in 1977.
