Carol Jean (Larsen) Shultz, 92, of Ellendale, died peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021.

She was born December 23, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Anders “Bill” and Thea (Brekke) Larsen.  She attended Ellendale School and graduated in 1948.  After graduation she worked in the office at Wilsons in Albert Lea.

On February 19, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Leonard “Lee” Shultz.  They made their home on a farm five miles southwest of Ellendale.  She worked on the farm and picked many eggs.  Carol and her sister, Mavis Langlie, started the “Lady Bug” thrift shop which they had for many years.  She was known for her chocolate chip cookies and lefse.

Linda Ann Shell, age 67 of Elysian, died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Pemberton on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

Born in Waseca on April 11, 1954, Linda was the daughter of Donald Martin and Irene Delores (Berndt) Lau.  She graduated from Waldorf High School with the class of 1972.  In 1973 Linda was married to Alan Lewer. Together they had two daughters and shared 13 years of marriage before they divorced. Linda was later married to Blake Shell for several years before their divorce. Most of her life Linda worked as a homemaker, but in recent years she worked in radio and newspaper advertising, including the NRHEG Star Eagle and Janesville Journal. She was first hired by the Star Eagle in 2007 and by the Journal in 2018.

She enjoyed baking, playing bingo, all things Christmas (She was known for her Christmas cookie gifts.), and spending time with her friends and family.

Remembering the life of Elvin “Gov” Floden.

Elvin Journal Floden, 95, of Waldorf, Minnesota (recently living at Riverbend Independent Living in Rochester, Minnesota), passed away December 19 due to complications from his long battle with COPD.  Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Elvin managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.  On his final day, he was surrounded by family, whom he adored more than anything else in the world.

Elvin graduated from Waldorf High School in 1944, farmed the family farm, served in the Army from 1954-55, then continued farming the family farm until his early 60’s.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barb Marsh, in 1957.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland and the American Legion in Waldorf.

Donna Margaret Bergerson, age 95, passed away on the morning of Friday, December 17, 2021 at Foxdale in Waseca.

Born in New Richland on November 21, 1926, Donna was the daughter of Carroll and Mae (Verplank) Dezell. She attended school in New Richland until the family moved to Freeborn, where she graduated with the class of 1944. She went on to Mankato State University and began her career teaching kindergarten in Keister in 1946. Donna was married to Orlan Bergerson on July 7, 1948, and settled in Hartland MN, moving to Waseca in the mid-1950s. She earned her master’s degree in education at Mankato State in 1970 and taught reading and math in Waseca for the next 35 years, retiring in the early 1990’s.

Donna was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir, volunteered at FarmAmerica, Waseca County Fair, Lutheran Brotherhood, and served as president of the Waseca Area Retired Educators. She enjoyed gardening, painting, shopping and most of all, reading. She was a devoted caregiver to her children, husband and parents, but teaching children to read was her true calling in life.

David R. Kofstad, 63 of Ellendale, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 at Owatonna Hospital.

David was born on February 9, 1958 in Albert Lea to LeRoy and Bonnie (Pollei) Kofstad.  He attended elementary school in Hartland and graduated from New Richland High School. During the 11th grade, he met his best friend and love of his life, Lynne Wallin.  The two were wed on March 20, 1976 at Cross of Glory Church in Hartland, and to their union they were blessed with five children.

Growing up in rural Hartland, David spent most of his life on the farm.  He showed champion steers and sheep and worked the land with his dad.  Later in life, he and Lynne moved to Ellendale where he enjoyed helping neighbors.  He was an over-the-road truck driver for most of his work career.  David looked forward to farming every spring and fall with Jim Knutson and his family.

David was charismatic and loved talking to his family, neighbors, and friends.  He loved to pass on his knowledge and teach those around him the things he knew.  Meticulous to the last detail describes how he performed the work he loved.

David enjoyed the simpler things in life.  He loved being a grandpa and looked forward to taking his grandchildren in the tractor with him every fall.  He was looking forward to being a great-grandfather in March.  He enjoyed taking weekend bike trips along many of the Minnesota trails with Lynne and stopping for a bite to eat along the way.

David was a man of faith and took time every morning to pray and read scripture to begin his day.  He is at peace in heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ.

Surviving David is his wife, Lynne; children: Jason Kofstad, Isaac (Martha) Kofstad, Annie (Adam) Morstad, Gabe (Laurel) Kofstad, Emily (Scott) Poeschl. Grandchildren: William (Fabiola), Grace, and Katheryn; Leah and Levi; Austin, Sydney, Olivia, Madelynn, and Deacon; Calvin, Kara, Lara, and Milianna. Siblings: Dennis (Linda) Kofstad, Sue (Donny) Pedersen, Randy (Linda) Kofstad and Jayne (Lorne) Lund.

Preceding him in death: Parents LeRoy and Bonnie Kofstad.
