Nina C. Anderson, age 97, of New Richland, formerly Ellendale, passed away on February 17, 2022. 

Nina was born on July 8, 1924 in Northwood, Iowa to Martin and Betsy Spilde.  

She loved flowers, driving, helping her husband on the farm, dancing, spending time with family and friends, baking/cooking- (her apple pies were always made from scratch.), going on trips to Arizona in the winters for over 20 years and grabbing lunch with her friends at Semcac. She retired from Owatonna Canning Company.

Joan Proechel, age 87, of Waseca, died on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. 

Born on November 14, 1934 in Waseca to Walter and Laura (Priebe) Rosenthal. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her youth all at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. Joan attended Waseca Central High School and graduated with the class of 1952. Following her education, she took a job working for Federated in Owatonna for a short time. On August 30, 1953, Joan was united in marriage to Orval Proechel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. Together they made their home in rural Waseca where they lived their entire married life while raising 5 children. Joan enjoyed playing cards, especially Pfeffer, and going to Bible class after Sunday’s church service. She loved sewing, quilting, and dancing. Joan was a lifelong faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. 

Richard “Ric” C. Aaseth passed away on February 1, 2022, at his home in Ellendale, MN. 

Ric was born on December 5, 1946,to Dale and Florence (Feeney) Aaseth in Willmar, MN.  Ric grew up, attended school, and graduated with the Class of 1964 in Bird Island, MN.  Ric attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Education.  Ric taught social studies at the Ellendale-Geneva High School for 35 years. 

Ric married Nijole Naujokas and together they raised their two sons, Thad and Judd.  

Evan Douglas Piltingsrud passed away at his home on Feb. 8, 2022 at the age of 56. Evan was born on Oct. 22, 1965 to Dale and Marie Piltingsrud of New Richland, Minn.

Evan graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School and had a full scholarship to any university of his choice. His favorite subjects were mathematics, astronomy, and aviation, which he continued to study throughout his life. As a teenager he built a telescope that all his siblings enjoyed using to survey the stars.

Dale N. Wallace, 87, of New Richland, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Methodist Campus in Rochester.

Dale was born in Freeborn County on December 26, 1934 to William and Gladys (Shave) Wallace. He attended school in New Richland. After his school years, he went to work, helping build Highway 30. In January of 1953, a month after his 18th birthday, he entered the United States Army. That September, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanette J. Raimann. 

During his time in the Army, Dale was posted in Alaska, Louisiana, Texas, and Korea.  While living in Texas, the couple welcomed two children:  Wendell and Teresa.  In 1962, the family moved to Albert Lea and Dale began working at Streaters.  In 1966, the family welcomed their third child, Brenda.  In 1968, the family moved to New Richland where, in 1972, the family opened the Wallace Laundromat.  In 1976, they welcomed their fourth child, Tina.
