Remembering the life of Elvin “Gov” Floden.

Elvin Journal Floden, 95, of Waldorf, Minnesota (recently living at Riverbend Independent Living in Rochester, Minnesota), passed away December 19 due to complications from his long battle with COPD.  Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Elvin managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.  On his final day, he was surrounded by family, whom he adored more than anything else in the world.

Elvin graduated from Waldorf High School in 1944, farmed the family farm, served in the Army from 1954-55, then continued farming the family farm until his early 60’s.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barb Marsh, in 1957.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland and the American Legion in Waldorf.

Elvin’s life was centered on the love for his family and the land he farmed his whole life.  Family and friends hold memories of his hardworking spirit and his labor of love for the land.  He enjoyed fishing, cards, and took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He so willingly sacrificed everything for his family.

Elvin is survived by his loving wife, Barb, (recently celebrating their 64-year anniversary); 2 sons, Chris from Plano, Texas, Randy (Kelly) from New Prague, MN; daughter, Carol (Jason) Blum from Oronoco, MN; grandchildren, Amanda (Brad) Jones, Tyler, Rebecca, Paloma (Ryan) Chastain, and Erik; great-grandchildren, Evie Chastain, Caleb Chastain, Isaac Chastain and Aiden Jones.

Elvin is preceded in death by his parents, Inger and John; sisters, Elida, Agnes and Sylvia, brothers, Elmer and Harry and his infant daughter, Barb.

Elvin was deeply loved by and cared for by his family and will be forever missed by both family and friends.
