Darrol Herbert Sponberg died on Friday March 25, 2016 at the New Richland Care Center where he was loved and cared for by a wonderful staff. He was 83 years old.
Darrol was born on September 23, 1932 on the Sponberg farm, homesteaded by his great-grandfather in 1871, to Herbert and Lucille (Olson) Sponberg. He attended country school and New Richland High School. He graduated from Tucson, AZ High School where the family moved to because of his sister’s health. Later, he was made an honorary member of the New Richland Class of 1950.
He attended college at the University of Minnesota Farm Campus for only a short time because his parents were injured in a traffic accident and he was needed to help on the farm. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and served in Korea toward the end of the war.
Viola E. Henkensiefken, age 79 of Waseca died on Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Janesville Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 14, 1936 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Henry and Tillie (Stenson) Dobberstein. She attended Waldorf High School. Viola married Emerson Henkensiefken on June 28, 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. She had worked primarily as a homemaker and farm wife, but had also worked at Birdseye, the Waseca Eagles Club, Yellow Mushroom, and the Waseca Senior Center. Viola enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking, gardening, and playing cards. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca where she was active with Ladies Aid, quilters, and taught Sunday School. She was also a past member of the Waseca Eagles and American Legion Auxiliary.
Memorial services for Elmer James Young of New Richland, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the First Congregational Church in New Richland, MN. Pastor Pamela Jensen will officiate. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Freeborn Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded.
Elmer died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Ecumen Care Center in New Richland. He was 94 years of age.
Elmer was born July 30, 1921 in Freeborn Township on the family farm the son of Jerome and Mabel (Rassmussen) Young. He attended country school and entered the US Army in 1942 serving overseas during WW2. He was seriously wounded in Italy and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his return in 1945 he was united in marriage to Elvira Christiansen on July 30, 1946 in Freeborn MN. Together they farmed the family farm in rural Wells for many years.
A gathering in remembrance of Kenneth W. Farr of Geneva, MN, will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 2 until 5 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN.
Kenneth died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center. He was 75 years of age.
Kenneth was born May 18, 1940 in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Harvey and Zadie (Ferguson) Farr. He attended the “Farr” Country School and on December 24th, 1956 was united in marriage to Julia Stieglbauer in Northwood, IA. He lived his entire life in the Geneva area and had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Geneva.

Ella passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 in Plymouth, MN. She was 91 years old.
Ella Emma (Ribbe) was born September 19, 1924 in Berlin Township to Louis and Josephine (Fischer) Ribbe. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. In 1942, she graduated from Ellendale High School. She received her degree from the Minnesota School of Business in 1943.
Funeral services for Marvin R. (Pat) Goette of New Richland, MN, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the St Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland. Pastor Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4-7 p.m. at Friedrich Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
Marvin died Monday, March 14, 2016 at his home in New Richland. He was 86 years of age.
Marvin was born October 29, 1929 in Kiester, MN, the son of Albert and Laura (Schewe) Goette. He attended country school in Kiester and moved to the Hartland area in 1946. On December 3, 1950 he was united in marriage to Marcella Hansen in Bricelyn, MN. Together they moved to New Richland in 1957 where they farmed.
A celebration of life service for Garry M. Roeker, 72, of rural Sherburn, will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in Welcome City Cemetery in Welcome, Minnesota.
Garry died unexpectedly at his home in rural Sherburn. Visitation and a time of sharing memories with the Roeker family will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Welcome and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Ronly Cromwell, age 83, of Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, Nev., passed away Monday, February 29 at his home. Ron grew up in Geneva and graduated from Ellendale School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Marines. When he came home he worked as a carpenter. He then moved to Lake Tahoe.
He is survived by his wife Gaylee; son Kelly of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Kim (Roeky) of Lake Tahoe; thee grandchildren: Cassidy, Kendra, and Alec; brothers Donly (JoAnne) of Geneva, Skip of Farmington, and Rick (Merrily) of Prescott, Ariz.; Ron's ex-wife Jackie of Reno; and many stepchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Chester, son Kendahl Cromwell of Lake Tahoe, and brother Dale Cromwell of Reno.
A memorial service for Helen M. Supalla will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland, MN. Father Raul Silva will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at a later date. Bonnerup-Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland is assisting the family.
Helen passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. She was 89 years old.
Helen Mae (Schroeder) was born on December 2, 1926 to Alfred and Lena (Ganzkow) Schroeder in Minnesota Lake. She attended and graduated from Minnesota Lake High School. She went on to work for the Veteran’s Administration on Washington D.C. for about a year and a half, until her father passed away and she moved back home.
Willard Walter Gerdts, age 87, of Waldorf, departed this life Sunday, February 18, 2016 at his home. He had an extended time of heart/kidney disease and chronic back pain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf, with Pastor Michael Mathews officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. on Thursday at First Lutheran Church. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Waldorf. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home of Wells is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial services for Elmer R. Quiram will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of New Richland, MN. The Reverend Scott Williams will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by New Richland Veteran’s Organization. Interment will be at a later date in St. Peter Cemetery, New Richland. Friends may visit with family from 4–8 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, and also one hour before services. Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland is assisting the family.
Elmer spent his last days at the New Richland Care Center where he died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 26. He was 79.
He was born on August 14, 1936, in Elysian, Minnesota the son of Rudolph and Lydia (Roemhildt) Quiram. He was a graduate of Waterville High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball and football for all four years.
Ordella Luella Yess, age 90 of Waseca, died on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Janesville Nursing Home.
Born on March 27, 1925 in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Otto and Emma (Rux) Rudolph. She attended school in Alton Township. Ordella married Roy Andrew Yess on June 16, 1948 in Smith’s Mill. She was employed at the E.F. Johnson Co in Waseca until her retirement. Ordella enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and making quilts. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church-Wilton.
Funeral services for Jerome Lee will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN. Reverend Richard Sliper will officiate. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 24 at Bonnerup Funeral Service Ellendale Chapel (308 7th Avenue in Ellendale). Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ellendale.
Jerome Lee, of New Richland, died Sunday, February 21, 2016, of a sudden illness at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. He was 86 years old.
Virginia Busho, age 90, of Ellendale passed away on Thursday, February 18 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna from complications of congestive heart failure. She was born on October 7, 1925 in Medford to Albert and Rose Webb. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert, and they were married for 62 years. Virginia worked at the Owatonna Canning Company, Pete and Rube’s Market, and ended her career as Ellendale Postmaster. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, her local church, and loved baking and handiwork, especially crocheting and sewing.
