Memorial services for Doris Lorraine (Jones) Loberg of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. Pastor Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, MN.

Doris Loberg passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea on Sunday, August 5.

Jeffrey “JB” Elroy Boelter passed away at his home in Winona surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. He courageously battled brain cancer for two and a half years before passing away at the age of 54.

JB was born on March 25, 1964 in Albert Lea, MN to his parents Elroy and Diane Boelter. He attended and graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School in 1982. He then attended Southeast Technical College in Winona and received a degree in marketing. It is during that time that he began his 34-year career with Fastenal. In 1993, he married Julie Long in New Richland, MN. They spent the next 25 years making their home in the beautiful bluffs of rural Winona and raising their three children, Jenna, Jared and Jonah. JB’s positive attitude on life was felt by everyone around him. His pure heart cared for all those around him, his integrity and ability to always do the right thing never wavered. His smile always lit up a room and was a quality everybody knew him for. JB was a huge Vikings fan and enjoyed cheering on his children, family vacations and volunteering at Callista Court and St. Anne’s. He left the world a much better place because of who he was to so many. Go into the world and make a positive difference to others in honor of JB and leave this world a better place like he did.

Phyllis Lorraine Shurson, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2018 at the New Richland Care Center. A funeral service for Phyllis will be on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church and funeral to follow at 11. Interment will be in St Olaf Cemetery.

Phyllis was born on November 26, 1924, (the daughter of Howard and Anna Andrews) in Titonka, Iowa. She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class in Titonka, Iowa. Phyllis later attended Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester graduating as a three-year RN. Phyllis started her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa and then Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea and completed her career in nursing as the School Nurse at New Richland/Hartland schools. Phyllis was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church and she was a member of the New Richland Legion Auxiliary. Throughout the years, Phyllis enjoyed quilting and her church friends, playing bridge, traveling the country with her husband Bud, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Phyllis married George (Bud) Shurson on November 7, 1947. They lived their almost 71 years together in New Richland.

Dale A. Meldahl, 61, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Methodist Hospital.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville, MN. The visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, and hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at 10:00 am on Friday, August 3, 2018, in Hamilton Cemetery in rural Racine. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. 

Ilene Phelps, age 84, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, in Milwaukee, WI.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, July 29, at 1 p.m. at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church, New Richland, MN.  Private family interment will be at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church cemetery.  

Ilene was born February 23, 1934, in Waseca county to Arnold and Ilet (Johnson) Johnson.  She graduated from New Richland High School and attended Mankato State Teachers College.  Ilene was united in marriage to Lyle Phelps on June 15, 1963, at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN.  Ilene taught elementary education for many years following graduation from Mankato State Teachers College and worked at Lake Crystal Health Care for several years. Following retirement, Ilene worked with her husband, Lyle, in his farm consulting business. 

Ilene was a long-time resident of Lake Crystal, MN, and an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal.  She served as Sunday School Superintendent and on the church council, taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, and was a member of Rachel Circle.
