Remembering Jean (Robertson) Anderson………………….
Jean was born on February 27, 1933, in Albert Lea, Minnesota the daughter of John and Emelia (Untiedt) Horan. She grew up in rural Geneva-Hartland area with three brothers and two sisters.
She attended school in Albert Lea.
She began working at Northern Valley, where she met Ralph Buringa. They married and had three children, Sandi, Bob and Dan. After they divorced, Jean began working at the Cottage Café in Geneva. She met and married Neil Robertson and they added children Debb and James to their family. She was happy to get back to her farm roots and they lived on several farms in the Geneva-Ellendale area. Tragedy struck andNeil died in a car accident in 1965. Jean began working at the Geneva Market to support her family, and continued working there until 1978. She later found happiness again and was united in marriage to Harold “Wimpy” Anderson. He preceded her in death in 1992. Jean remained in Geneva until 2004 when she moved to Kasson to be closer to family. Jean has been a longtime faithful member of the Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. Her faith and her family meant the world to her.
Jean was lovingly known as Gran to not only her family, but to so many more people whom she loved and loved her.

Burton Ellsworth Borchert, age 94 of Albert Lea, passed away on March 7, 2020 at Prairie Senior Cottages in Albert Lea.
Burton was born on May 23, 1925 on the family farm in Summit Township, Steele County, MN. Parents were Herman and Alma. He had to older sisters: Melinda and Bernice.
He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1943. He worked on the family farm, at a Chevrolet dealership last as parts manager, owned and operated a farm supply business, ran his own real estate sales company, and worked a variety of other service positions.
Burton fathered five children with their mother Bonnie Mae (Skogebo): Byron (Mary), Patricia (Paul) Anderson, Carolyn Schwarze (Alf Mildenberger), and Bradley and James (deceased). He had 10 grandchildren. He was later married to Oriet Ribbe until her death, and lastly to Sarah Scripture.
His greatest prides were raising his family, seeing that his children had an opportunity for advanced education, his businesses, and designing and building his dream home on an acreage east of Ellendale. He enjoyed fishing and bee keeping.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be no memorial held at this time.

Remembering LaVonne H. Bartness
Private funeral services for LaVonne H. Bartness of Hartland, MN, were held at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Reverend Shawn Stafford will officiate. Private interment in Hartland Cemetery.
LaVonne died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Faribault on Saturday, April 4, 2020. She was 92.
She was born in rural Hartland Township on June 8, 1927, the daughter of Hans Jr. and Lillie (Miller) Holland.
As a young girl she attended rural school and then helped on the farm.
On October 12, 1947, she married Mervin M. Bartness. They were members of the Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church, and very active in the Hartland Community. The family mowed the Hartland Cemetery, with LaVonne doing her part well into her 80’s.
She did home day care in Hartland, and cared for many that considered her their second mom.

Bernard Peter Falksen, 100, formerly of Ellendale, MN passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN. Private family graveside services are to be performed with a memorial service at a later date. The graveside service will be livestreamed on his obituary page at www.bonnerupfuneralservice.com on Friday around 1 p.m.
Bernard was born December 12, 1919 in Albert Lea to Jens and Sena (Rasmussen) Falksen. He married Ruth (Petersen) Falksen on Nov. 21, 1943 and to this marriage was born three sons and three daughters. They resided in the Albert Lea, Glenville and Ellendale areas for their 61 years of marriage until her passing in July 2005.
His mother passed away when he was 13 years old. He and his father moved to Denmark when he was 14 years old, but Bernard returned to Albert Lea when he was 15 years old and lived with the John and Meta Nielsen family. He was grateful for their inclusion of him into their family for the rest of his life.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II.
Bernard was a farmer at first but, later found his true interest in carpentry while working with his brother Elmer. They built and remodeled many homes in the area. He was a skilled craftsman and has left many fine examples of his work to be cherished and enjoyed.

Allan “Al” Luverne Sommers, age 73, of Mankato, died on Friday April 3, 2020.
Al was born on August 28, 1946 in Ellendale, MN to Bernie and Laurene Sommers. After graduating from Ellendale High School he served in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of his service, he was employed by UPS for 30 years until his retirement in the fall of 1998.
Al was married to his loving wife, Alyce Platt on November 12, 1983. He is survived by his wife Alyce, his sons John (Julie), Dan (Nancy), Mike (Mona); brothers Jerry, Bob (Andrea) and sister Connie (Cary); eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many other nieces, relatives and friends.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at a later date.
