She was born May 2, 1953 in Austin the daughter of Clifford and Betty (Harber) Bruggeman. Diane graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1971.  She married Douglas Smith Feb. 5, 1972 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church.  The couple moved their family to Geneva in 1978 after purchasing Geneva Meats.  Once her children were school age, Diane started working at Geneva Meats where she was still currently employed.

Diane was an active member of Community Lutheran Church in Geneva where she previously served on the church council, was active with WELCA and helped with various programs over the years.  She was always there for others when they needed help, never saying "No."  Diane was an amazing cook, a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan, and loved spending time with her friends.  She also enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and listening to the oldies (loudly).  Above all, she was always there for her family.  She never missed her kids or grandkids' events; often times going to multiple events in one day.  Her grandchildren were her world!
