Robert “Bob” Garth Hanna, 58, of Owatonna, died of natural causes on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at home.

He was born May 5, 1962 in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Reuben and Eleanor (Swenson) Hanna.  He grew up on a farm near Lake Mills, IA.  He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1980 where he played football and wrestled.  Following his schooling, he worked on a farm for Don Grotewold near Lake Mills.  He then began his 33 year career at Viracon where he was currently employed. 

On June 26, 1987, he married Sandy Stover at North Prairie Lutheran Church in Scarville, IA.  The couple began raising their 3 children, Stephanie, Amanda and Spencer, in Owatonna where they lived for 9 years.  They then moved to a hobby farm near Geneva and later divorced.  In 2018, Bob moved back to Owatonna.

Roger L. Meyer, of New Richland, Minnesota was born on June 27, 1955 in Albert Lea, the son of Elmer and Ruth (Frodin) Meyer.

He spent his life working hard and lending to anyone that might need a helping hand. His legacy will be his big heart for everyone.  Whether it be pushing someone out of a snowbank, taking soup to a neighbor, lending a listening ear, Roger was always there for others.  He never wanted to be a burden and always put others’ needs above his own.

Roger died on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the Albert Lea Medical Center after a short, courageous battle with ALS.  He was 65.

He leaves his companion and best friend, Judy Thompson and her daughters, his special “adopted” family members Jeremy Peterson and Stephanie Weckwerth, his siblings, Pat (Larry) Farris, JoAnn Meyer, Eugene (Jodee) Meyer, Elgene Bonnes, Sharon Meyer and Dorothy Brouwers,  brother-in-law Howard (Mary Jane)  Carlsen and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Audrey, also from ALS, and his parents.

The gathering celebrating Roger's life originally scheduled for Sunday, November 15 has been postponed. The new date will be posted on Facebook when it is determined.

 

 

Larry Flatness, age 68, of Hartland, MN has passed away peacefully in his home on November 3, 2020. Larry Dean Flatness was born to parents, Morris and Louise Flatness, on July 18, 1952 in Albert Lea, MN. He married Deb (Olson) Flatness on February 18, 1972. Larry’s proudest achievements were his 3 children and 10 grandchildren, playing junior hockey, working at Tukua Drainage running a dragline for many years before owning his own business, building his backyard koi pond, and working with many good people at the Freeborn County Highway Department. Larry was also an avid Minnesota Wild fan and an aviation enthusiast. 

Larry is survived by wife Debra, sons Brandon (Karen) Flatness and Andy (Kristin) Flatness, and daughter Sarah (Bryon) Madson; his grandchildren Gage, Cale, Zander, Nora, Tucker, Charlie, Alex, Anabelle, and Ben; brother Marlin and sisters Nancy (Kenny) Gordon, Susan Gulbertson, Marlene (Gerald) Johnson, and Diane Flatness. He is preceded in death by his grandson Jack, brother Daniel, and his parents.

A visitation was held Friday, November 6 and a private burial took place at the little Hartland Cemetery. 

 

Colleen A. Loken, 78, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at Traditions 1 of Owatonna.

She was born September 24, 1942 in Nevada, IA, the daughter of Mike and Carolgene (Hobein) Dassenko. Colleen graduated from Oak Park Academy in 1960 and attended Southern Missionary in Tennessee. On August 12, 1962, she married Dale Loken at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland. Colleen worked at Jostens for a few years. Colleen was a city girl who turned into a farm girl where she drove tractor and combine. She worked side by side with her husband, Dale, and their family. She had many hobbies, such as doing puzzles, square dancing, macramé, knitting, sewing and quilting. Colleen made a special quilt for each of her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and baker, especially her pies. Colleen was known for entertaining, planning the food around the event with family and friends. She was able to travel to many places, including, Germany, Ukraine, Moldova, throughout the United States to the east and west coasts, trips to the mountains, a cruise to Alaska and also wintering in Texas for many years. Colleen will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Kristine Kay Neumann passed away on October 10, 2020 at Methodist’s Hospital in Rochester, MN at the end of her decades long battle with an auto immune disorder at the age of 62. 

Kris was born in Owatonna, MN on October 19, 1957 and attended school there until her family’s relocation to New Richland, MN when she was 10 years of age. She graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School in 1976. Kris worked as a runway model, an executive assistant for B. Michael Stuppy Seminars, and was a Clinic Office Supervisor at Northwestern College of Chiropractic. She attended Austin Community College, Mankato and St. Cloud State colleges prior to obtaining an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Normandale Community College, graduating with honors in 1991. Kris received special recognition as Dietary Technician of the year in 1994 and was President of the Minnesota Technical Practice in Dietetics 1994-1995. She was active in her community and was a registered EMT. After working in the School of Public Health in the Epidemiology Research Department at the University of Minnesota, she began her twenty-four year career at Mayo Medical Center in Rochester MN as a registered Dietetic Technician.
