Betty Ann Hullopeter, age 90 of New Richland, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Born in Lamberton on March 27, 1930, Betty was the daughter of Remi and Helena (Decapp) Beert.  She attended grade school in the country and later graduated from Lamberton High School. On September 6, 1950 Betty married her love, Gerald Ben Hullopeter, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Ten children blessed their family throughout their years together. She and Gerald bought and ran the New Richland locker plant for over 20 years. Later in her life, she went back to school and earned a business degree, spent many years trucking alongside her husband, and worked at the Owatonna Wal-Mart before transferring her employment to the Waseca Wal-Mart. Betty was a dedicated volunteer, often offering her time to her church, to local nursing homes, and to children of local schools. More than anything though, she loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a long-time member of All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland and also regularly attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.

Betty is survived by ten children and their spouses; one brother, thirty-one grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Russell E. Hanson, 94, of New Richland, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna.

Out of precaution in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, memorial services will be held at a later date. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family (www.bonnerupfuneralservice.com).

Russell Eugene Hanson was born in Waseca County on November 14, 1926 to parents Eugene and Florence (Larson) Hanson. He grew up on a farm near the Vista area in Otisco Township, graduating from New Richland High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Army, seeing many different parts of the world through his service.

On June 7, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruth J. (Haug), and to this union, four children were born.

Russell farmed all his life, and he enjoyed the work he did. When he wasn’t farming, you would most likely find him on the golf course in the summer, on a snowmobile in the winter, or taking an occasional trip to the casino. In his later years, he and Ruth would spend winters in Arizona. He was a member of LeSueur River Lutheran Church, The American Legion, and the Moose Club. Russ was an easy-going guy who liked conversation and having a good time.

Marie Carroll, 89, died Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Medford Senior Care.

Marie was born September 3, 1931 in Owatonna, MN to Edward, Sr. and Margaret (Kubicek) Haberman. She graduated from Ellendale High School. Soon after, on January 19, 1950, she married Milo “Bud” Carroll and became a housewife. The two shared a long life together, raising four children: Patti, Jackie, Gordy, and Dan.

Marie was very sweet, helpful, and always smiling. No one remembers her ever being mad. Family was Marie’s pride and joy; she would do anything for them. She never told her kids “no” and was always there when they needed her. Marie loved babysitting her grandchildren.

In life, Marie enjoyed traveling, snow-birding in Texas, embroidery, Bluegrass festivals, camping, watching TV (game shows, the RFD channel, and Andy Griffith were some of her favorites), and ceramic painting.  She was an avid doll collector and had even painted/created her own ceramic dolls.

Marlene (Gordon) Dillemuth, 87, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea.

Marlene was born in West Concord, MN on December 3, 1932 to Vernie Ernest and Hazel Mildred (Miller) Gordon.  The family later moved to Owatonna, where she was a member of the OHS class of 1950. That same year, on April 17, she married Donald Eugene Dillemuth. They lived for a short time in Waseca and moved to Albert Lea in 1962. The couple were blessed with nine children.

Marlene worked as a waitress in various restaurants over her working years, and she and Donald operated two restaurants in Albert Lea in the mid ‘60’s: Patio Café and Gold’s Grill. She also spent time working as a telephone operator at Naeve Hospital and at the service counter at Nelson County Market.

In her younger years, Marlene liked to bowl, was President of the VFW Auxiliary, helped with the Special Olympics, and was a member of ARC. She was also in numerous card clubs and would have still played in her later years if she had not lost her eyesight.
