Leo Allan Streator, age 78 of New Richland, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the New Richland Care Center.

Born in Heron Lake on December 28, 1942, Leo was the son of William Orley and Lucille Pauline (Luft) Streator.  He attended school in Heron Lake and graduated with the class of 1960.  Leo was married to Barb Byrne and together they had two children before they divorced.  Over the years Leo worked as a realtor for Jesse James Realty in Northfield and also for various realty companies in the Twin Cities.  Most recently he was in the printer repair business. He enjoyed music, playing cards, reading his Bible, telling his stories, and spending time with family and friends.

Leo is survived by two children, Todd (Heather) Streator of Faribault, and Gwen (Dick) Schriever of New Richland; four grandchildren, Trenton Streator, Travis Streator, Dustin Schriever and his girlfriend, Mary Rosenthal; and Tawnya Schriever and her boyfriend Terry Olson; five great-grandchildren, Kimmie, Colton, Connor, Braylynn, and Braxton.  He is also survived by four siblings, Paul (Kat) Streator of IL, Gayle Streator of VA, Julie Streator of Waseca, and Chad Streator of Richfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mark Streator; and one sister, RosaLee Streator.

A memorial gathering for Leo will be held in Heron Lake in the spring. Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca is handling Leo’s arrangements.

Private services for James R. Krueger, 70, of New Richland, were held on Wednesday, December 23 at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. Reverend Charles Espe officiated. Interment was in the LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr Krueger died Sunday morning, December 20, at his home in New Richland after a strong battle with MDS/AML.

James (Jim) Russell was born on April 12, 1950 the son of Russell M. and Margaret (Lueck) Krueger in Waseca, MN.  Jim graduated from New Richland High School in 1968 and Mankato Vocational school in 1971. He was a lifelong resident of New Richland.

On November 20, 1971 Jim was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Verlaine Anderson at LeSueur River Lutheran Church.  Together, they raised three children.  Jim was known for his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and being “up North”, especially at his cabin in Blackduck, MN. He was a very generous and supportive friend and brother that loved to tell stories and joke around.  He had an enormous heart for his six grandchildren and enjoyed sharing with them his passions for the outdoors. Whether it was sporting events, plays, concerts, hunting, fishing or four wheeling, he was there to support and encourage them with his loving heart.

George Wayne Smith, age 71, of Isle, MN died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Due to COVID-19 a private family service will be held at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Burial will be in Le Sueur River Lutheran Cemetery, New Richland, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.

George was born December 21, 1948 in Waseca, MN to David G. and Nona M. (Root) Smith. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. George owned and operated M and F Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Great Bend, KS from 1999 to 2015. On March 1, 2000 George was united in marriage to Patti Lepej in Great Bend, KS. They moved to Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota in November 2015. George was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Malmo, MN and Aitkin American Legion Post #86. Church and spending time with family were very important to George. He also loved fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Patti Smith of Isle, MN; daughters, Tia Lilley of Great Bend, KS; and Tricia Viegra of Great Bend, KS; step children, Tyler Mermis of Great Bend, KS; Taryn Baca of Goodyear, AZ; and Tierney Mermis of Great Bend, KS; mother, Nona Smith of New Richland, MN; siblings, Kathy (Tom) Connelly of St. Thomas, MN; Rebecca Smith of Coon Rapids, MN; Jeffrey (Deb) Smith of Medford, MN; Jana (Gary) Ebnet of Castle Rock, CO; and Robert (Dorine) Smith of New Richland, MN; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

James M. Johnson (Jim) of Richfield, Mn, formerly of Ellendale, Mn, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2020. He was 71 years old.

Jim was born August 27, 1949 in Albert Lea to Wallace and Florene (Payne) Johnson. He graduated from Alden-Conger High School in 1967. Following graduation, he attended Minneapolis Vocational School of Barbering.

On July 20, 1968 he married Susan Christensen in Wells, Mn.

He enjoyed barbering for 50 years until health issues forced him into retirement. The past 45 years were spent on Main St. in Ellendale where he fostered many friendships. During that time, Jim also held many positions for the city of Ellendale, including volunteer EMT, City Councilman, City Clerk, and Water and Sewer Superintendent. Jim dearly loved his service to the city of Ellendale. He was also an active member of the Commercial Club. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale.

Jim was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Minnesota Vikings, where he was a season ticket holder for 40 years. He enjoyed his morning and afternoon coffee breaks with his friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. Jim was a kind and generous man with a hearty laugh and engaging personality.

Ellen Andrea (Berg) Hanson passed away peacefully on November 25, 2020, with her husband of 53 years by her side. She was 72 years old.

She was born April 18, 1948 to Albert T. Berg, Jr., and Helen Ruth Margaret (Rice) Berg in Owatonna, Minnesota. She grew up in Ellendale, Minnesota, and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1966. Her college years began at Augsburg College in the fall of 1966.

She married John Philip Hanson of Clarks Grove, Minnesota, on October 7, 1967. They bought a home in Ellendale and welcomed their first child, Andrea Helen, on January 29, 1972; and their second child, Allison, Clair, on November 5, 1977. Her greatest treasure in life was being a wife, mother and homemaker.

Throughout her years in Ellendale, she was a piano teacher to many an active music leader at First Lutheran Church, including serving as organist and pianist, as well as directing 25 church musicals. She created a teen Christian singing group called Children of the Light, which toured throughout the state and even recorded several albums. She also served as the Director for Sunday school, vacation bible school, and the senior high and junior high choirs.
