Dorothy Arlene Dorn went peacefully to live with her heavenly father on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 91 years young. She was born on June 4, 1929 to Elmer and Martha (Bidne) Evenson on their family farm outside of Joice, IA.
She grew up the oldest of three sisters and enjoyed helping her dad on the farm. She was both baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice. Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Joice High School.
After graduation from high school she moved to Albert Lea, MN, where she waitressed and worked for Wilson meat packing. In 1953 she met and married Clifford Dorn from Otisco, MN. After eloping, they took over Clifford’s family farm, where they raised their three children and built a very successful registered dairy herd. Dorothy was known for placing a flower pot in every window of their state-of-the-art dairy barn. She loved to give tours of their barn to people from all over the world, including a 75-person choir from Madagascar who couldn’t speak English, but she managed to keep them entertained with many of them hugging her upon leaving.
Another joy she had in life was loving all her “U of M Waseca kids” who worked for and lived with her family over the years. Dorothy was a second mom to many! After retiring in 1997, they moved to Waseca. She and Clifford were members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Otisco, where she was active in WELCA.

Funeral Services for Genevieve L. (Paulson) Wayne will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Reverend Randy Cirksena will officiate. Services will be livestreamed at www.bonnerupfuneralservice.com. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may visit with family one hour before services at the funeral home.
Genevieve was born on April 2, 1922, on a farm near Ellendale, Minnesota the daughter of Manford and Alice (Nelson) Paulson.
Genevieve loved life in her life-long community of Ellendale, Minnesota. She was a farm-girl at heart, preferring to help her dad in the barn over housework. She also shared her dad’s love of adventure and travel. A favorite memory was a 2000-mile trip out west with her family at the age of 15. After graduating high school, where she was homecoming queen, she began her career at the Ellendale bank.
Music was an integral part of her from piano lessons to playing trombone in the high school band to singing in quintets, directing the church choir and arranging inter-denominational choir Cantatas! She also served many years as the church secretary at the United Methodist Church in Ellendale.

Rodney G. Hatle, age 85, of Owatonna, died on September 28, 2020, at Homestead Hospice in Owatonna. Rodney Gene Hatle was born on July 16, 1935, in Albert Lea, the son of Evelyn Hatle. He was raised in New Richland by his grandmother Clara Hatle and graduated from New Richland High School in 1953. On September 14, 1953 he enlisted into the United States Army and served three years, including as a paratrooper, and was honorably discharged. Rodney graduated from Luther College in 1961, and attended post-graduate courses at Minnesota State University, Mankato. On January 30, 1965, he married Carolyn Jean Ash at First Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, IA. Rodney taught high school in Britt, Webster City, and Mason City, Iowa for 10 years before returning to Minnesota. He was a Sports Editor with the Fairmont Sentinel newspaper for two years, and then taught English for Fairmont High School for 23 years. He diligently worked to teach his students to think broadly and write clearly. In his retirement, his passions were family, local history, and politics. He wrote a regular Moments in Time column for the New Richland and Ellendale Star Eagle. He was especially fond of sports history, and in his final days he remarked that Major League Baseball should never have switched from having players choose the All Stars to having fans choose the All Stars. Rodney enjoyed creating and producing notebooks of family and local history for the New Richland Area Historical Society. He loved visiting and spending time with family, especially his son Kelvin's theater performances in the Twin Cities and his grandchildren in Florida.

Adeline Marie Anderson was born on June 17, 1932 to Myrtle (Moen) and Joseph Anderson, in Berlin township, Steele County, Minnesota. Adeline died Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna MN. She was 88 years of age. She attended school in Ellendale and on August 30, 1947 married Donald Merton Reese in Austin, MN.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery immediately after the service. The family requests people attending be in compliance with CDC guidelines. Adeline was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale.
Adeline was actively involved in the farming operation with her husband in Berlin township near Ellendale and exclusively managed and cared for the dairy herd. Their home was always open to everyone. Many nieces, nephews and other family members enjoyed many wonderful times at the Reese farm. Donald and Adeline moved to New Richland in the early 1990’s.

Marshall “Marsh” Anthony Svoboda, 43, of New Richland, died Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Lakewood Health System in Baudette as the result of a heart attack.
He was born February 13, 1977 in Bountiful, Utah the son of Jeff and Kathi (Olson) Svoboda. He lived in Southern California until 1993 when the family moved to New Richland to operate a family farm. He graduated from NRHEG in 1995. He continued his education at Riverland Community College in Austin earning a diesel mechanic’s degree. He married Amy Johnson on August 23, 2002.
Marsh worked as a diesel mechanic and truck driver at a number of places. His heart was working in the oil fields in North Dakota and Wyoming for Oasis Petroleum, Rockpile Energy and Liberty Oil Field Services. Most recently he drove truck for Don Grover Farms.
He loved the outdoors enjoying fishing since he was a child, camping, hiking, the mountains, “big trucks” and guns. Marsh was a collector of knowledge, memories, friendships and just stuff. Everything and everyone had meaning to him.
His children were his treasure along with everyone he met. He made friends easily and “never met a stranger”.
