Your best player scores 16 points and adds six assists, another starter finishes with his third straight doubledouble, scoring 19 and pulling down 11 rebounds, and a third player hits 5 of 8 three-pointers for 15 points.

You'd think that would be enough to win.

For the NRHEG boys' basketball team, it wasn't. The Panthers lost to visiting United South Central

Tuesday, Jan. 17, falling 82-63 despite the great individual efforts on the part of NRHEG.

The NRHEG High School wrestling team was a little more than shorthanded for last Saturday's Dave Erickson Hall of Fame Invitational in Hayfield.

The Panthers had only nine individuals compete, and they came home with eight placewinners and an eighth-place team finish.

"We did an adequate job for only nine team members competing," said NRHEG coach Shaun Larson. 'That would be similar to playing football with seven players, basketball with only three. We are making improvements as individuals, which makes us better as a team. We will not be giving up anytime soon, that I will assure you."

The Panthers were led in Hayfield by a familiar face, senior Makota Misgen, who finished as the runner-up at 285 pounds.

It was not the prettiest game. But it was a win, and that's the most important thing at this point for the NRHEG girls' basketball team.

The Panthers stayed undefeated in the Gopher Conference with a 48-44 victory at Tri-City United Monday, Jan. 23. It was 22-22 at halftime.

"We were sluggish to start the game tonight," said NRHEG coach Onika Peterson. "It looked like a typical Monday night game in January. It wasn’t a pretty win, but it was a win! I am proud of the girls' effort and grit in the second half."

Individually: Faith Nielsen 3 points, 2 rebounds; Quinn VanMaldeghem 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals; Erin Jacobson 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal; Hallie Schultz 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals; Sidney Schultz 22 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 assists; Addie Stadheim 1 rebound; Camryn VanMaldeghem 1 point, 3 rebounds, 7 steals.
