Two upsets in a row was not in the cards for the NRHEG High School wrestling team.
The dual-meet season is finished.
The sixth-seeded Panthers, 38-33 victors over No. 3 seed Maple River/USC earlier in the week, were eliminated from the Section 2A tournament 64-18 by No. 2 seed LCWM Saturday at Lake Crystal. It was a bittersweet defeat for the Panthers, who had perhaps their best showing of the season while knock- ing off Maple River/USC Thursday, Feb. 16 in Wells.

Girls fall in conference championship

Two years, two conference championship losses to Hayfield.
After falling early in the season to the Vikings, the NRHEG girls' basketball team was looking for revenge, and a championship. They found neither, losing 63-55 Saturday night in Hayfield.
It was another classic and close game. The Panthers led early, often, and late, but saw their lead, and their chances, dwindle away in the final three minutes. Early in the first half they led by as much as seven. Late in the second they also led by as many as seven. Plagued by foul trouble, they somehow never trailed by more than four until the final minute of play.
With five minutes to play tied at 48-48, a risky in-traffic, in-lane pass from Quinn VanMaldeghem to Faith Nielsen put the Panthers up two.
The squads traded the lead only two more times. First, when Viking Kristen Watson was fouled connecting on a layup attempt and again when Panthers' senior Sidney Schultz scored a layup seconds later.
It was the final time the Panthers led.

Competition group holds final performance in Orlando, Florida

“It was such a magic moment to hear our school’s name ring through the air in Florida,” recalls NRHEG Competition Cheer team member Adalyn Anhalt. “At that moment, I knew all of our hard work had paid off.”
Junior Isabel Stadheim remembers practicing before the three-day national competition began. “It was both terrifying and exhilarating,” she recalls. “Beating out over half the division the first day was definitely a shock to the teams who had no idea who were.”
