The NRHEG High School track and field teams not only won gold medals and qualified individuals for state, they made school history in the process.

The Panthers broke two school records while advancing four athletes to state in a stellar showing at the Section 2A meet at Mankato West Saturday, June 3.

"What a fantastic performance!" said NRHEG coach Duey Ferber.

The season did not end as hoped for the NRHEG High School softball team.

But, as with most teams, it never does.

The Panthers, in their 25th and final season under head coach Wendy Schultz, made an early exit from the sub-section tournament last Tuesday, dropping their opening round game 5-4 against Medford.

"We definitely ad our changes to win this game," said Coach Schultz. The Panthers scored first, plating single runs in the second and third inning and tacking on two more in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
But the Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. They won it with three runs in the fifth.

The Panthers, meanwhile, missed some opportunities.

When it comes time for the sub section meet, NRHEG track and field coach Duey Ferber does not concern himself with team scores. His goal is to advance as many athletes as possible to the section level.

In that regard, the Section 2A South Subsection meet at Mapleton was a huge success for the NRHEG girls, who qualified 13 individuals for section while placing second among 13 schools.

"It was a fantastic day for the girls," said Ferber.
