The NRHEG High School base- ball team won its final home game of the regular season in exciting fashion Friday night, walking off Kenyon-Wanamingo 5-4 at Jeff and Carol Reese Field in New Richland.
The Panthers took an early lead and held onto it until the seventh inning, when Kenyon-Wanamingo clawed back to tie the game at 4- 4.
In the Panthers' half of the inning, every indication pointed to extra innings when junior Daxter Lee came to the plate with nobody
on and two outs. He singled sharply to left and was batted around to third base on a follow- up single from Ethan Thompson. On the very next pitch, Alden Dobberstein laced a walk-off hit over the left fielder's head.
Freshman Jared Lee earned the victory, pitching one inning in relief. Jackson Chrz pitched five innings, and Daxter Lee pitched one inning in relief.
As the No. 1 seed in the sub- section, the Panthers will receive a bye in the first round of playoffs and host a playoff game for the second consecutive year Tuesday, May30at5p.m.
