The NRHEG High School country teams traveled east last Thursday for the Hayfield Invitational.

"It was wonderful day for running, with much cooler temperatures," said Panthers coach Larry Nydegger.

And the NRHEG runners performed accordingly.

The meet got off to a great start with the combined boys and girls junior high race going first.

Julieann Wobbrock was the top finisher for the girls, taking first place in the 1.5-mile race with a time of 9:52. Ella Jeno was close behind, taking 11th place, completing the course in a time of 11:13. Owen Flatland finished with a time of 11:10 on the boys' side, good for 37th place.

For the varsity girls, Holly Bartness was NRHEG's top finish- er. She completed the 5-kilometer route with a personal best time of 22:58, which placed her 28th in the field of 77 runners. Madison Corkill and Amelia Duryee finished their first ever varsity races with times of 26:29 and 33:04, respectively.

The varsity boys' race had Devon Nelton and Jacob Karl both finishing in the top 10 with personal best times as well. Devon finished in seventh with a time of 18:08, Jacob in 10th with a time of 18:12. Jackson McGannon shaved nearly three minutes off his previous best time to take 52nd place with a time of 21:43.

"It was nice to finally be running in cooler temperatures," said coach Nydegger. "And I think that really helped the runners perform at their best today."

After a meet at Blooming Prairie Tuesday, the Panthers are in action Tuesday, Sept. 19 with their home invitational at Riverview Golf Course.

The first road trip of the season, to Dodge Center, was a long one for the NRHEG High School volleyball team.

It became even longer when the Triton Cobras won two of the first three games, forcing the Panthers to rally to claim a 3-2 victory Thursday, Sept. 7. The final tally in favor of NRHEG was 25-14, 24-26, 16-25, 25-22 and, in the deciding game, 15-10.

"We came out strong in our first game and played well," said Panthers coach Ashley Tolzman. "Our second game is where our passing started to pull behind the 10-foot line and lessened our ability to attack. The third game proved to be a mental game. We really got in our heads. Triton was scrappy and able to pick up everything we were sending over the net."

The final two games were different.

A lightning delay led to Saturday's NRHEG home football opener to be called early.

It was probably just as well.

The Panthers moved the ball better than last week, but could not find the end zone and couldn't contain Norwood-Young America in a 34-0 setback in New Richland.

"It was a tough loss," said NRHEG coach Marc Kruger.

But the coach did cite some highlights for the Panthers, mainly the passing of junior quarterback Alden Dobberstein.
"The Central Raiders are a very

strong team that gave us a lot of trouble," said Krueger. "We had some highlights in the passing game, specifically Alden being able to find tight end George Roesler a few times. Norwood-Young America's front line was very big and played very well."

Kruger said the team had issues with statistics and he had none to report.

The Panthers, 0-2, have another Saturday game this week as they host Mayer Lutheran at 1 p.m. Sept. 16 in New Richland.
