The best part about the Waseca Invitational, according to NRHEG track and field coach Duey Ferber, is that it gives the Panthers a chance to see competition they otherwise would not.

The worst part, this year anyway, is that it was the third meet of the week for many of the NRHEG girls, who finished third among six teams at Waseca Thursday, May 18.

Waseca won with 155.9 points, followed by Austin at 145.2. NRHEG 72.7, New Ulm 79, WEM 63 and Blue Earth Area 57.2

It looks like the NRHEG softball team is ready for post-season play.

The Panthers completed a two- win week Friday with a 21-3, four- inning triumph over Kenyon- Wanamingo. The lone blemish for the week was a 2-1 loss to United South Central in which the Panthers committed five errors to the Rebels' one.

There were plenty of hitting heroes at Kasson, where the Panthers plated 10 runs in the top of the first inning and nine in the second.

The NRHEG track and field teams competed in the Section True Team meet Tuesday, May 9 at United South Central in Wells.

The girls finished sixth out of 16 schools while the boys were 10th.

Evelyn Nydegger picked up a pair of silvers, taking second in the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.20 seconds and second in the triple jump at 33 feet even. Quinn VanMaldeghem clocked 2:32.31 for second in the 800. Anika Ladlie was second in the high jump at 4-10.

Malonna Wilson was third in the shot put, while the 4x100 relay team of Josie Strom, Holly Bartness, Chloe Riewer and Paige Johnson placed third. Riewer went 15 feet even for fifth in the long jump. Gabby Schlaak went 4-10 and took fifth in the high jump, and Lauren Crowell was sixth in the discus.
