Remembering Dale Newgard…..

Funeral Services for Dale Newgard, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Jennifer Gonsalves will officiate. Friends may visit with family one hour before services at the church. His years of service with be recognized with Military honors by Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations.

Dale died suddenly on Wednesday, May 29, in Worth County, Iowa. He was 83.

Frederick Dale Newgard, always known as Dale, was born on February 18, 1936, in Albert Lea, the son of Loren and Edna (Hartz) Newgard.

Dale attended Hartland Schools and then graduated from New Richland High School.

He proudly served our country in the US Navy from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Dale was united in marriage to Arlyne Langlie on September 3, 1960, in Ellendale, MN.  They made Albert Lea their home and to this union three children were born, Tammy, Tim and Vickie. 

He began his career in sales at the Coca Cola Co., then continued at Hiland Potato Chips.

He later transitioned to over the road trucking, working for Wilson and Co, Murphy Trucking, later retiring from Yellow Freight.

Diane M. Wendland, age 77 of Waseca, died on Friday, May 17, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Waseca County on October 24, 1941, Diane was the daughter of Harvey and Irene (Nelson) Crumb. She graduated from Freeborn High School and later from Mankato State University with an education degree. She taught high school in Raymond and Freeborn before marrying Richard Wendland at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland on November 28, 1964. From 1965 until 2003 she and her husband owned and operated Barden’s Bar in downtown Waseca. Diane enjoyed gardening, reading, family, pool league, playing cards, and following the Waseca Bluejays’ activities. She was a member of the Waseca County Historical Society, was a local DFL Chairperson, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.

Diane is survived by one daughter, Carrie Wendland of Waseca; one son, Shane (Stephanie) Wendland of North Mankato; three grandchildren, Kyanne Grams, Griffen Hager, and Ava Wendland; four great-grandchildren, Draedyn, Bryndal, Daxtyn, and Lennyx; and one brother, Gary (friend Jackie) Crumb of Matawan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Dale.

Celebration of Life services for William Logan Bankester of New Richland, MN, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private family interment will be in the Hollandale Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans groups.

William was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from the New Richland Care Center in New Richland, MN. He was 96 years of age.

William was born August 28, 1922 in DeQuincy, LA, the son of Warren and Hasseltine (Duck) Bankester. He lived his early life in Reeves, LA, the youngest of five children. William left LA, at the age of 18 to go to Chicago to the Moody Bible Institute where he met Alice Saha, they married in 1943. Together they went on to have three children, David, Anita and Philip. His education was interrupted by WWll when he enlisted in the US Navy serving until the end of the war. He spent two years in the South Pacific. After returning from the war he returned to Chicago and graduated from Moody and Wheaton College and Seminary.

Upon graduation from Wheaton in 1952, William accepted a call to serve at the Conservative Congregational Church in Hollandale where he served as pastor for 20 years. In 1972 they moved to Freeport, IL, serving at Zion Church for 20 years. In 1993 they moved to Mazeppa, MN for one year at the Woodville Chapel before returning to the Hollandale Church for another 20 years. His final six years were spent as a resident of New Richland Care Center, but he continued to minister there to staff and residents.

Eileen Chicos, age 83, formerly of New Richland, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Friedrich’s Funeral Home in New Richland. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland with visitation one hour prior to the service. Father Michael Cronin will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in rural New Richland.

Mary Eileen Carr was born on April 11, 1936, in Indianapolis, IN to John and Kathryn (Maloney) Carr. Eileen graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1954 before working for Indiana Bell telephone company in Indianapolis.

Eileen met and fell in love with Francis “Pat” Chicos while he was stationed at Fort Harrison, IN. They were married on August 16, 1958, in a double wedding with Eileen’s beloved twin sister, Kathleen, and Thomas Hanley. After Pat’s discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Minnesota in 1959 to run the Chicos family farm in New Richland. For a number of years, Eileen spent her summers working at Oakview Golf Course in Freeborn.

Funeral services for Rick A. Johnson, age 58, of Kensett, IA, formerly of Fairmont, MN, will be held 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Burial with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center Chapel in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Rick passed away on Friday evening, May 3, 2019. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
