Diane M. Wendland, age 77 of Waseca, died on Friday, May 17, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Waseca County on October 24, 1941, Diane was the daughter of Harvey and Irene (Nelson) Crumb. She graduated from Freeborn High School and later from Mankato State University with an education degree. She taught high school in Raymond and Freeborn before marrying Richard Wendland at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland on November 28, 1964. From 1965 until 2003 she and her husband owned and operated Barden’s Bar in downtown Waseca. Diane enjoyed gardening, reading, family, pool league, playing cards, and following the Waseca Bluejays’ activities. She was a member of the Waseca County Historical Society, was a local DFL Chairperson, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.
Diane is survived by one daughter, Carrie Wendland of Waseca; one son, Shane (Stephanie) Wendland of North Mankato; three grandchildren, Kyanne Grams, Griffen Hager, and Ava Wendland; four great-grandchildren, Draedyn, Bryndal, Daxtyn, and Lennyx; and one brother, Gary (friend Jackie) Crumb of Matawan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Dale.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca, with a parish prayer service to begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, with Father Gregory Leif officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
