Phillip R. Briggs, 77-year-old resident of Ellendale, MN, passed away at Allina Health Hospital in Owatonna, MN. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Phillip was born on July 24, 1943 in Hobart, OK to Otos and June Briggs.  He was united in marriage to Karen Cleven on July 3, 1973.  Phillip worked as a farmer and as an over the road truck driver.  His second job was playing poker. Phillip took great pride in his John Deere tractor collection and enjoyed taking them out for rides.  He liked fast cars and going to NHRA Races.  Phillip and Karen spent 16 years wintering in Arizona. His true joy was his grandchildren, and even more so his great-grandchildren.

Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Karens Briggs; children, Denise Briggs, Scott Briggs; grandchildren, Aaron (Molly) Liverseed, Santana (Tim Williams) Liverseed, Andrea Briggs, Gavin Briggs, Shea Briggs, Alan Martin, Tyler Martin; great-grandchildren, Klare Liverseed, Lorelei Liverseed, Caroline Williams, Scarlett Williams; daughter-in-law, April Briggs; brother, Russ Briggs; aunts, Joy Hotchkiss, and Carol Nelson. 

He is preceded in death his parents; son, Garret Briggs; great-granddaughter, Ava Liverseed; and sister-in-law, Diane Briggs.

Arrangements are with the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale.

 

Pamela Marie Schultz, age 72, of Wells, MN, died Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at her home in Wells, MN, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, MN, with Father Greg Havel officiating. Public visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pamela was born October 8, 1948 in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Karl Leslie and Lois LaVonne (Kobernus) Kapke.  Karl’s father, Albert John Stephan Kapke, son of Johann Michael Stephan of Germany and Katherine Fredricka Gross, was adopted by Katherine’s second husband, Charles Karl Albert Kapke, whom she married after the death of her husband and moved to America, bringing 3 of her 6 children with her.

At 1 ½ years of age, Lois brought the children to Waseca County, MN, to her father’s farm by St. Olaf Lake to help with her mother.  Pam attended New Richland Public school and Trinity Lutheran Church.  On Oct. 9, 1965, she was united in marriage to Alvin Richard Schultz at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland, MN.  To this union 6 children were born and the couple later divorced in 1980.  Pam’s oldest daughter, Susan, was adopted out. They happily reunited when Sue turned 18.

Celebration of Life for Merrill Bunn will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Ellendale United Methodist Church. All Covid-19 guidelines and precautions will be followed. Merrill Dean Bunn, age 92 of Ellendale, passed away on February 15, 2021 at the Owatonna Hospital.

Merrill was born on December 28, 1928 to John and Ada (Daniel) Bunn in Waseca. He grew up in the rural Ellendale area and graduated from Ellendale High School. After high school he joined the family farm. On August 17, 1958, Merrill married Berniece Jensen in St. Paul, MN. Together they lived on the farm and raised their family. In 1986 they moved into town. After Berniece passed away, Merrill moved into Whispering Oaks Assisted Living. 

Merrill was an active member of the Ellendale Gun club. He also had a love for horses. He loved to ride and go to draft horse shows. Merrill enjoyed raising and helping his children raise Charlois cattle. Merrill never missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all, Merrill loved to spend time with his family and friends; especially their fishing trips up north. 

Lorraine Donna (Rugroden) Nelson, 93, of New Richland passed away March 30, 2021 at the New Richland Care Center.

Lorraine was born in her family home near New Richland on June 21, 1927 to Oscar and Clara (Knudson) Rugroden. She was the youngest of 6 children.

She attended country school through grade 8 and graduated from New Richland High School in 1945.

 After high school, she worked at Gutenberg’s Café in New Richland where she met a very handsome Marine. Gene Lee Nelson became her husband on March 20, 1949.

They raised 4 children, Gail, Donna, Reid, and Mary Kay, and farmed near New Richland. In 1977 they moved “to town.”

She worked as a receptionist for Dr. George Olds until his retirement in 1986. In 1987 she started working in the fabric department of the new Walmart in Waseca. She loved her work, the many new friends she made, and discovered a passion for Mountain Dew during her 20+ years there.

Ralph M. Klinder, of Minnesota Lake, MN, age 95, died Monday, March 1, 2021 in Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, MN.  A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Danville Twp., Blue Earth Co., MN, with Pastor Michael Mathews officiating.  For those attending, please bring your own seating.  Masks will be required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.  Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was entrusted with arrangements. Ralph was born March 28, 1925 in Faribault Co., MN, the son of Fredrick and Agnes (Tolzmann) Klinder.  He attended several country schools, Waldorf Elementary and St. John’s Parochial School.  He was united in marriage to Gloria Kain on June 8, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Danville Twp.  Ralph was a lifelong farmer and a great “Mr. Fix It”.  He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural MN Lake and served in many offices, including Trustee for over 25 years.  Ralph was also on the Blue Earth County ASCS Board, 12 years on the MN Lake school board and sold Crow seed corn.  Ralph enjoyed reading and traveling. 

Ralph is survived by his daughter Marcia Klinder-Badgley and her husband Clifford Badgley of Wake Forest, NC; sister-in-law Carolyn Kain of MN Lake, MN; many nieces and nephews and their families.  

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents; wife Gloria; infant son Burton; sisters: Pearl (Klinder) Kroenke & Irene (Klinder) Sonnek.
