The NRHEG Panthers didn’t just win the consolation championship game of the state girls’ basketball tournament.
They dominated it.
The Panthers routed Rochester Lourdes 73-57 Friday afternoon at Concordia University of St. Paul.
Betsy Schoenrock led the Panthers with 20 points. Marnie Wagner and her twin sister, Maddie, each scored 15, Kayley Camerer 12 and Rachel Collins 11 for NRHEG.
The Panthers finished winning 20 of their final 21 games, with an overall record of 27-6. Lourdes finished 22-11. Both teams were unseeded at the state tournament.

The Ellendale Community Food Shelf will host a fundraiser in celebration of March Food Share Month. They welcome people to come and celebrate the month with them. A meal has been planned and will be served at the United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 22 from 5:30–6:30 at no charge.
If you are able, please bring non-perishable food items to help stock the local food shelves. Or people can choose to donate monetary gifts as well, which are always welcome.
There have also organized a raffle in conjunction with the event, which includes a 32” LED TV and a half-hog bundle. Tickets are available from any of the food shelf volunteers.
Mark your calendars as you will not want to miss this great night in Ellendale.

The NRHEG boys’ basketball team is headed where it has not been in more than a decade: the section finals.
The second-seeded Panthers defeated Fairmont 45-42 in a thrilling Sub-Section 2AA South championship game Monday night at Minnesota State-Mankato. They improved to 27-2 overall and play Jordan (25-2) for the Section 2AA title — and first-ever state tournament berth — Friday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. at Minnesota State-Mankato. Fairmont, which upset No. 1 seed WEM, finished 18-10.

Maddie Wagner hit both ends of a 1-and-1 free throw to ice a 52-47 victory over Esko for the NRHEG girls' basketball team in the consolation semifinals of the state girls' basketball tournament Thursday at Concordia University in St. Paul.
The Panthers (26-6), unseeded in the state tournament, play Friday at 2 p.m. at Concordia for the consolation championship. No. 5 seed Esko finished 24-8.
Maddie Wagner finished the game with 14 points while twin sister Marnie scored 15, Betsy Schoenrock 12, Grace Johns six, Rachel Collins three and Kayley Camerer two for the Panthers.
