The University of Minnesota, Southern Research and Outreach Center (SROC) will hold their annual Winter Crops Day meetings at five locations.
Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 11 the program will be held at the Community Center in St. Charles.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, programs will be held at the Community Center in Arlington and Lakes Sports Bar & Grill in Lake Crystal.
Cost of the event is $35, which will include morning refreshments, lunch and handout materials. Continuing education credits have been applied for certified crop advisers. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Jerry Ibberson was appointed last week by the Ellendale City Council as Ellendale’s new local emergency management director. He will be bringing the city’s emergency response system up to date.
Ibberson and the council will be discussing better preparedness in the wake of the Veteran’s Day train derailment.

NRHEG School Board

A group of about 20 people braved the near-zero windchill Monday evening to attend the NRHEG Truth in Taxation hearing at 6 p.m. before the regular board meeting.
The 2016 payable 2017 levy was approved at the regular meeting which followed for the amount of $1,375,496.29.
The budget is composed of three separate funds: the General Fund (Maintenance includes referendum) = $915,840.17, Community Service = $61,065.37, and Debt Service = $398,590.75.
General fund revenue is based on student enrollment, and pays most of the district’s expenses. Community service fund is based on the adult and pre-school populations.
