“You never know what’s around the corner,” Hareid said. “You just keep living and you deal with it. I can’t cure it, but I can try to make something happen or be a part of making something happen. That to me is what it’s about.”
Just about every guy featured in the calendar has seen cancer’s harsh effects on someone they love. Most of the men were immediately on board — and then some.
“Most everybody said, ‘Yes, tell me what time. What do you want me to wear?’” Hareid said.
She didn’t want all the men perfect and posed. Rugged was the name of the game, placed in either a work or play background.
“Why not a man’s calendar?” Hareid said. “They are very nice to look at.”
Allotted only about 15 minutes for each photo shoot, she needed her artistic vision crystal clear. Their busy schedules didn’t bother her though; she was just elated for their willingness to help.
“The second shot I took of Jared Reyant and Hunter Eustice was perfect,” Hareid said. “I always made sure I had enough. All in all, the men were very easy to shoot. They are all just so nice looking. It’s hard to get a bad shot.”
May’s models, Owen and Brandon Wayne, she remembers getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. How they even got a decent shot amazes her.
“Everybody had fresh haircuts,” Hareid said. “We had every style, from a shaved head to a Justin Bieber style. There was a Sam Eliot inspired cut and a Mohawk too. Longer, cut short, defined – I did it all.”
Hareid continued, “My favorite month would have to be April,” Hareid said. “It’s my birthday and my husband is featured in that one.”
The front cover photo shoot takes the cake though, when it comes to hysterics. Chuck and Randy Hagen definitely induced a bout of the giggles, while trying to take their picture.
“They were wonderful,” Hareid said. “I might do a second calendar down the road because there are more guys I wanted to put on there, but I ran out of room.”
She appreciates all the help from CF Designs, aka her son Cole Johnson. The photo editing and calendar design is all she imagined and more.
“I was going to print some black and white months and some colored, but he said, ‘No mom. Let’s just do a nice black and white every month and I’ll highlight one color in each photo,’” Hareid said. “He did a fantastic job.”
Calendars can be purchased at the following locations: Broskoff Structures, Geneva Bar & Grill, The Star Eagle newspaper and her salon, Looks Unlimited.
“You can call me too,” Hareid said. “I can either get you one, or you can stop and pick one up at the salon.”
She is so happy her idea of almost two years finally came to fruition.
“Katie Ladwig, whose husband is Mr. January, said last spring, ‘That’s enough of this fru fru stuff. We need to get some sexy men on some calendars,’” Hareid said. “I needed her kick to get me going. Now I feel like I’ve helped. Whether it is big or small, I just feel like I’m doing something.”
