 Memorial services for Rudolph (Rudy) J. Phillips, 95, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland. Father Russell Scepaniak from St Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations, VFW and American Legion. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Rudy passed away November 13, 2016 at Oak Park Place.

Rudy was born to Matthew and Angeline (Hubert) Phillips near Waterloo, IA on April 19, 1921. He grew up near Medford and Hartland, MN attending country school. In 1940, there were few jobs to be had so he found work where he could in southern Minnesota.

Memorial services for Billy L. Johnson, of Ellendale, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10 at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. The Reverend Brian Gegel will officiate. Interment will be in Geneva Cemetery.  Military Honors will be accorded.  Visitation will be from 4-7 on Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Ellendale, and one hour before the service at the church.

Billy died suddenly on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was 74.
He was born on November 6, 1941, in Chautauqua, Kansas, the son of Howard and Norma (Loy) Johnson. After graduating from high school, Billy served our country in the U.S. Navy.
He married Karen Hojberg on June 6, 1965, in Rawlins, Wyoming. Shortly after their marriage they made their home in Minnesota and lived in the Ellendale/Geneva area.
Billy had worked on the oils rigs in Wyoming, Queens in Albert Lea, Anderson Grocery in Owatonna, Chicago Northwestern Railroad, first as a brakeman and later as a conductor and Geneva Meats.
 

Verna Emelia Johnston, 102, of Northfield, MN, passed away Monday, October 31, 2016, in Northfield. Verna was born on January 23, 1914, the oldest of three girls, in Waseca County outside New Richland, MN, to William Ira Heckes and Matilda Demmer Heckes.

Dorothy Hagen, age 91 of Northfield, died Saturday morning, October 29, 2016, at the Care Center of the Northfield Retirement Community.

Dorothy Alvina (Weckwerth) Hagen, was born May 8, 1925 on the family farm near New Richland, MN. She attended country schools and graduated from New Richland High School (1943). She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland.

She moved to the Lutheran Motherhouse in Milwaukee, WI to become a Lutheran Deaconess. Her first assignment was to the Lutheran Orphans’ Home in Toledo, OH where she was the House Mother for Girls. During this time, she met Frederick Hagen. (Fred was raised in the orphanage, served in the Navy during WWII, and returned to “the Home” to be a maintenance man and Big Boys Supervisor.) They fell in love and she gave up her commitment as a Deaconess. They married on May 24, 1950 and moved to Williston, OH (1950-55) where they both worked at the Luther Home of Mercy.

Remembering the life of Harold Ackman

Funeral Services for Harold A. Ackman, 95, of Waseca, MN, formerly of New Richland, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Reverend Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery.  Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services, Waseca assisted the family.

Harold died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at New Richland Care Center. Harold was born on July 13, 1921, the son of William C. and Elizabeth (Tessmer) Ackman in Deerfield Twp., Steele County, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm in Deerfield Twp. before the family moved to Wilton Township in Waseca County. Harold was a lifetime farmer in Wilton Township. Harold married Bonita Frank on November 18, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Harold and Bonita lived, farmed, and raised their family northwest of New Richland. They were married for 71 years.
