Funeral services for Faye Dettmann of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Vibrant Life Assemblies of God Church in Ellendale, MN. Pastor Patrick Stitt will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9–11 at the church. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, MN.

Faye went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN. She was 80 years of age.

Faye was born February 26, 1938 in Egeland, ND, the daughter of Friederich E. and Elnora Mae (McLean) Richard. 

She is survived by her husband George Dettmann, children; Robert (Joyce) Dettmann, Ron Dettmann, Rebecca (Roger) Quaintance, Randy (Theresa) Dettmann, Roberta (David) Vesely and Roger Dettmann. There are 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Brenda Richard and many nieces and nephews.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents Friederich and Elnora Richard, son Dennis, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services for Alice Simonson, age 92, of New Richland, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. Rev. Dr. Kristen Venne will officiate. Interment will be at Geneva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Monday, April 16 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Alice died Friday, April 13, 2018 at New Richland Care Center.

Alice Charlotte Simonson was born September 20, 1925 in Hartland, Minnesota, the daughter of Leonard and Laura (Johnson) Olson. She grew up in Hartland, attended country school and went on to graduate from Freeborn High School. She was confirmed at Hartland Lutheran Church.  In 1944, Alice married Lee Johnson. They were blessed with two children, LaRuen and Connie. The couple later divorced. Alice then married Leo Simonson. For over 20 years, Alice and Leo would winter in the south. Alice was a member of Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, gardening, and spending time with family.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Connie Johnson; grandson, Shawn Johnson; granddaughter, Sara Lindstrom; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lee Johnson; husband, Leo Simonson; son, LaRuen Johnson; and brother, Oliver Olson.

 

Funeral services for Howard Carl Friedrich of Sioux Falls, South Dakota will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April, 14, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Pastor Paul Andre will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, MN, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St Olaf Cemetery, New Richland.

Howard died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at his winter home in Mesa, AZ; he was 91 years of age.

Howard was born August 24, 1926 in Jasper, MN, the son of Carl E. and Hilda (Eikmeier) Friedrich. He attended Jasper Schools and graduated from Jasper High School June 3, 1944. He enlisted in the US Navy June 6, 1944. He attended boot camp in Farragut, ID. While in Farragut, Howard attended the Hospital Corps School before serving in a number of capacities. He became a crew member aboard the USS Enterprise (CV6 Carrier) in May of 1945.

In October of 1945, the Enterprise was part of a fleet of ships that docked in New York for the Celebration of Navy Day. During his time in New York, Howard met his bride to be, Marie Louise Henrich of Williston Park, Long Island, New York. He and Marie were married August 17, 1946 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Williston Park by the Reverend Alvin J. Neevil.

Howard attended General Beadle State College in Madison, S.D. for one year before they returned to Williston Park in 1947. While living in Williston Park, he worked for Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to Minnesota in 1948.

Ruthie M. Hodgkins Mathews, age 92 of Mapleton died on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on February 16, 1926 in McGrath, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Zimpel) Zimpel.  She attended McGrath Public School, earned her teachers certificate from St. Cloud University and received her education degree from Mankato State University. She married John A. Hodgkins on August 20, 1947 in St. Paul and he preceded her in death in 1984.  She later married Paul Mathews on July 28, 1989 in Waldorf. Ruthie taught for many years in Waldorf where she also started the Special Education program. She enjoyed rosemaling, crocheting, gardening, traveling, and cooking. She was a member of Medo Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Mathews of Mapleton; two children, Greig “Sam” (Pam) Hodgkins of Russell, Manitoba, Canada and Jacqueline (Kim) Bloom of Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren, Christa (James) Sorlin-Davis, Sherri (David) Sandry, Cory Hodgkins, Catherine (Alex) Swanson, Sarah (William) Grant; nine great-grandchildren, Tayla, Reid and Addison Sandry, Solomon, Isaiah and Hannah Swanson, and Lilian, Daniel and Katherine Grant.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Richard Swanson; two brothers, Harris and Raymond Zimpel; and three sisters, Luella Schipansky, Jeanette Olson, and Lorene Stolle.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 1-4 p.m. and will continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Medo Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow at Medo Lutheran Cemetery.  dennisfuneralhomes.com

Jerry died Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Oak Park Place.

Jerry Dean Langlie was born on July 14, 1941 on the family farm outside of Ellendale, Minnesota, the son of Athan and Helyn (Hanson) Langlie. He attended school in Ellendale. After his schooling, he worked with his dad on the farm and later worked for North Central Plastics. On January 19, 1974, Jerry married Sandra VanCamp in Austin. To this union, one son was born.  The couple later divorced. On July 14, 1997, Jerry married JoAnne Hillman on Katherine Island in Albert Lea. Jerry was associated with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting.

Jerry is survived by his wife, JoAnne Langlie; son, Jason Langlie; sisters, Barbara (Dale) Mrotz and Julie Langlie; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and aunts, Carole Schember, Phyllis (Eugene) Hagen, and Sylvia Langlie.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bruce Langlie; and nephew, Levi Blouin.
