Ellendale City Council
By SCOTT GROTH
Contributing Writer
The Ellendale City Council met Thursday, May 26 with Mayor Skroch, Councilmen Goebel, Lassahn, Groth present and Councilperson Kibler absent. LeeAnn Hojberg, city clerk, Josh Otto, maintenance, and two visitors were also in attendance.
During Hojberg’s report, she presented some ordinances the city attorney had prepared for viewing. The abandoned car ordinance that would replace 99-1 got the most attention from the council. The new ordinance, as Councilman Goebel said, “has some teeth to it”. The new ordinance would give the city the right to remove vehicles, once the owners have been notified and given the chance to remove them or make them street legal again. The council moved to replace the old ordinance with 2016-2. The new ordinance will be available to read and a summary will be in the paper.

NRHEG class of 2016 to graduate Sunday
By JIM LUTGENS
Editor/Publisher
A total of 63 students, many of whom have known each other since preschool, will gather as a group for the final time Sunday, June 5 at 2 p.m., as the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva High School class of 2016 graduates.
This year’s Valedictorian is Jessica Nafe, daughter of Terry and Karen Nafe. She was NRHEG’s homecoming queen last fall and is involved in almost everything. She plans to attend Bethel University with a major in organizational communications and a minor in Spanish. Nafe’s favorite teacher was Mrs. Bently.
Her advice: “Don’t be afraid to try new clubs and sports! You’re only in high school once so make the most of it!”

NRAF Representative
Of the Waseca Area Federation
The benefits of having a community fund, such as the New Richland Area Foundation, continue as the foundation recently completed its seventh year of grant presentations.
Each year the NRAF Grants Committee of Kermit Schoenrock, Matt Harrington, Pam Goehring, Jill Schlaak and Gail Schmidt receive many applications from the NRHEG Schools and organizations within the city. The total requested this year was $24,574, which far exceeded what the NRAF has available to grant. After a long review of the applications the committee was faced with another difficult task of stretching those grant dollars available while focusing on arts and culture, education, health, human services and recreation.
