Lois Ann Evenson, 84

Lois Ann Evenson, age 84, of Freeborn, MN, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Parkview Care Center in Wells, MN. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Freeborn Congregational United Church of Christ in Freeborn, MN, with Reverend Cherie Daniel officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, from 4-6 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be at a later date in the Freeborn Cemetery.

Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements. 

Lois Ann Evenson was born February 11, 1927, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl B. and Marie S. (Lutteke). On June 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Galen H. Evenson in Freeborn, MN.

Lois worked in the area, including the Oak View Golf Course in Freeborn and the Millhouse Bar. In her early years, she had worked at the family owned Mink Farm. Lois was a member of the Freeborn Congregational UCC Church, and a night circle member. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and Polka Club, and wintering in Florida for 35 years.

Lois is survived by two sons: Allan (wife Kathy) Evenson of Hartland, and Mark (wife Sue) Evenson of Alden; 5 grandchildren: Adam (Jodi) Evenson, Aaron (Angie) Evenson, Rhonda (Steve) Haglund, Kelly (Glenn) Snyder, Darcy (Troy) Newman; 9 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Snyder, Kyle Haglund, Kayla Haglund, Miranda Snyder, Kelsey Newman, Carter Newman, Brayden Evenson, Ethan Evenson, Grace Evenson; brother: Merlyn (Ruth) Peterson of Waseca, MN; 2 sisters-in-law: Ruth Ludwig and Janice Orth; 2 brothers-in-law: Donald Evenson and Frank Evenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Galen in 2010.

Donad 'Bill' W. Klemmensen, 84

Donald “Bill" W. Klemmensen, 84, of Ellendale, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Berlin Township.

He was born October 31, 1927 in Summit Township, Minnesota the son of Harvey and Gertrude (Calverly) Klemmensen. Donald was baptized in 1929 and confirmed in 1942 from St. Ansgar Lutheran Church.  He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1945, and then married Ann Thompson on June 11, 1947.  Donald took pride in farming, and farmed on the Thompson Farm which was in Ann's family.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, where he also was a Trustee, and on the Berlin Township Board for thirty three years.  He enjoyed watching sports, feeding the birds, going to the casino, and his travels to Europe, Asia, Hawaii, South America, and Caribbean Cruises.  Don also enjoyed his coffee partners very much.

He is survived by his wife Ann Klemmensen of Ellendale, three sons Doug (and Jan) Klemmensen of Ellendale, Larry (and Carol) Klemmensen of Coon Rapids, MN,  and Lonny (and Sue) Klemmensen of New Richland.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren,  and two brothers Richard (and Elaine) Klemmensen of Blooming Prairie, David (and Carol) Klemmensen of Woodbury, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Margie Betlach.

Visitation will be at First Lutheran Church Ellendale on Friday December 23, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m..  Funeral services will be held Saturday December 24, 2011 at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church Ellendale with The Reverend Richard Sliper officiating.  Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale.  Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Donald Selmer Peterson, 70

Funeral services for Donald Selmer Peterson of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. Pastor Richard Sliper will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery.

Donald died Tuesday morning, December 20, 2011 at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was 70 years of age.

Donald was born June 3, 1941 in Berlin Township the son of Selmer and Myrtle (Smith) Peterson. He graduated from Ellendale High School. On June 4, 1960 he was united in marriage to Cheryl Hansen at the LeSeuer River Lutheran Church.

Don drove a fuel truck for the coop in Preston, MN before taking up farming in Ellendale. He farmed for over 20 years and then moved to Rochester, MN, where he was the Petroleum Manager for the Greenway Coop. He later managed the Southern Valley Coop in Mankato until his retirement and moved back to Ellendale.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was active on the church board. Don was a member of the Lions Club and the Elks Club. He had served on the Ellendale School Board, Ellendale Coop Board and was active in the Pork Producers and Soybean Association.

Don loved to hunt and fish, play golf, card games, woodworking and any outdoor recreation. He enjoyed going on trips with the RV, especially the trip to Alaska. Spending time with the grandkids always came first at all of their sporting events and activities.

Donald is survived by his wife Cheryl of Ellendale, MN, daughters; Kathy and her husband Ross Murphy of Knoxville, TN, Deb and her husband Jeff Schmidt of Ellendale, MN, Barb and her husband Chuck Hagen of New Richland, MN. There are four grandchildren; Kelly (Drew) Nelson, Tiffany Schmidt, Brett Hagen and Ryann Hagen. Two special great grandchildren; Lily Olson and Elena Nelson. Also surviving are one sister; Shirley (Tyler) Hanson of Rush City, MN, and brothers; Sam (Sharon) Peterson of Hope, MN, Mike (Carol) Peterson of Citrus Heights, CA, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Mary Jane (Milton) Jensen.

Dennis Nesdahl, 65

Dennis Nesdahl of Rodney, Ontario, Canada died suddenly at Four Counties Health Services, Newbury on Saturday, December 17th, 2011.

Mr. Nesdahl was the dear husband of Bonita Berge, loving father of Daniel Nesdahl of Oklahoma and Michael (Melissa) Nesdahl of Minnesota, grandfather of Brooke and Brenna, dear brother of Janice (Earl) Klinger of Minnesota, Jerry (Shirley) Nesdahl of California, Karen (Orlo) Krause of Texas, Anita (Bill) Francesco of Minnesota, Curt Nesdahl of Minnesota, Duane (Roberta) Nesdahl of Arkansas and Linda (Greg) Caron of Missouri,
son-in-law of Angela Berge and favorite uncle of Gregory Dancel. He is also survived by many in laws and nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Rodney Chapel of Denning Funeral Directors on Monday, December 19th, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service was conducted from the chapel on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Skip Patterson officiated.

Berniece C. Richardson, 97

Berniece C. Richardson, 97, of Owatonna, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Homestead Hospice House. 

She was born June 26, 1914 in rural Blooming Prairie the daughter of Bernt and Karin Sophia (Larson) Paulson. Berniece graduated from New Richland High School and attended Normal Training to be a school teacher.  She taught country school in both Waseca and Steele County for 9 years.  She married Paul Richardson on September 18, 1942 in Anoka.  While her husband was in the military she worked for New London City Bank in New London, CT.  After the war, the couple moved to Bixby in 1945.  There they ran a gas station, bus station and post office until retiring in 1976.  The couple later moved to Owatonna in 1989.

Gerald D. "Jerry" Souba, 84

Gerald D. "Jerry" Souba, 84, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Clare Bridge in Owatonna.

He was born December 6, 1926 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Henry and Marguerite (Dillemuth) Souba. Jerry graduated from OHS in 1945 and entered the United States Army serving from 1945-1946. He farmed with his father, and together they ran Souba Truck Farm. Jerry married Genevieve Hafstad June 24, 1950 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. The couple was life long dairy and vegetable farmers. Genevieve passed away January 10, 2002. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Crane Creek School Board, CSA and was a longtime Bohemian National Cemetery Board member. He enjoyed square dancing, card games and coaching 4-H softball. He played softball for Riverside and Clark. Jerry and Genevieve were foster parents for many children. Jerry had a passion for farming which was shared with those who knew him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his children Larry (Sandra) Souba, Barbara (Gerald) DeMars, William (Debi) Souba, Audrey (Randy) Schroht all of Owatonna, and Joanne (John David) Guevara of Harlingen, TX. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren Megan (John) Bauer, Laura Souba, Brian Souba, Carmen DeMars, Jonathan DeMars, Michael (Laura) DeMars, Amy Jo (Curt) Rieck, Jody (Timothy) Hugley, Mindy Souba, Andrew Souba, Aaron (Brooke) Schroht, Colleen Schroht, David Schroht, Thomas Schroht, Jacquelyn Guevara, and Jeffrey Guevara, seven great-grandchildren Savannah DeMars, Ingrid DeMars, Leah Rieck, Lydia Rieck, Lanie Rieck, Adeline Schroht, and Weston Schroht, and his sister Agnes (Bent) Paulsen of Plymouth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Thomas, and his brother John.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday December 8, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. and at United Methodist Church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday December 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church with Pastor Loren Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the Bohemian National Cemetery, the Parkinson's Foundation or the donor’s choice.

Daniel Michael John Maras, 28

There will be a private funeral service for Daniel Michael John Maras.  Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, MN.

Daniel Michael John Maras, age 28, passed away in Duluth, Minnesota, on December 4, 2011.  Dan was born on October 20, 1983, to Thomas and Denise (Byrne) Maras in Waseca, MN.  He attended schools in New Richland and Mapleton, Minnesota, graduating from Maple River High School in 2002.  After graduation, Dan moved to Duluth, Minnesota to attend Duluth Superior College.  He worked as a Program Developer and Client Enrichment Director for Innovative Living in Duluth.  He loved his job and took great pride in his work.  He especially found joy in his family away from his family, Scotty and Jordan.  Dan enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, music, making others laugh, and attending Wide Spread Panic shows.  Dan especially enjoyed April Fools’ Day and playing pranks.   Dan’s family was very important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.  Dan lived his life to the fullest and had a heart for everyone.

Dan is survived by his parents Brian and Denise Esser, siblings Peter (Shannon) Esser, Brian (Kelly) Esser, Katherine (Chris) Haulter, Lori (Herb) Moon, Sarah (John) Maras, Jacob (Chelsie) Maras;  nieces and nephews:  Brody, Ava, Leigha, Ellie, Claire, Kiley, Max, Riley, Meghan, Dominic, Graysen, Kenley and Baby Maras.  Grandmothers:  Beatrice Esser and Barb Byrne; Aunts: Joan Baynes, Bonnie (Don) Root, Stephanie (Ron) Rahn and Ann Maras; Godparents:  Connie Berg and Michael Baynes; Special Friend: Emilie Hofer, and a great extended family.

Dan is preceded in death by his birth father, Tom Maras;  brothers Matthew and Benjamin; maternal and paternal grandparents, two uncles and one cousin.

Brenda Ann Grabau, 59

The funeral service for Brenda A. Grabau, 59, of rural New Richland, MN will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30 at LeSueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland Township with Rev. Paul Meierding officiating. Mrs. Grabau passed away Sunday, Nov. 27 from complications of cancer, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Brenda Ann Bleifus was born Aug. 4, 1952 in Rochester, MN to Clarence and Frances (Braksilek) Bleifus. She grew up and went to school in Stewartville and attended Stewartville High School. Brenda was married on August 26, 1972 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville to Alan R. Grabau. Following their marriage the couple lived in Georgia and Arizona while Al served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge they moved to Rochester, MN briefly, before moving to Ostrander, MN in 1975, where they lived for a number of years. Al and Brenda were both employed at Rongar's Appliance in Spring Valley, MN and in 1980 they purchased the business and location. Together they owned and operated Al’s T.V. and Appliance in Spring Valley for 19 years, selling their business in 1999. They moved to St. Olaf Lake in rural New Richland where they have continued to make their home. Brenda was employed in accounting at Mediacom in Waseca, MN until her retirement in 2005. Al is self-employed as a Dish Network retailer and installer. Brenda was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ostrander and was a current member of the LeSueur River Lutheran Church in rural New Richland. She enjoyed fishing, rides on the pontoon, following NASCAR and Minnesota Boys and Girls High School basketball and March Madness college basketball. She loved time spent with her lake neighbors and friends and family, especially her grandchildren. 

Survivors include her husband Al; her two daughters and son Alisa (Greg) Baumann of Plymouth, MN, Amanda of St. Paul, MN and Jakin of Plymouth, MN; four grandchildren Alex, Olivia, Konnor and Amelia; one sister and two brothers Richard (Marian) Greene of Hastings, MN, Sharon (Ed) Wellik of Stewartville, Steve (Sharon) Bleifus of Stewartville; and sister-in-law Betty Bleifus of Simpson, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles “Tony” Bleifus.

Friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning. Beth Ann Wesselhoeft, 57

Memorial Services for Beth Ann Wesselhoeft of Ellendale, MN, formerly of New Richland, MN will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland. The Reverend Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Waldorf, MN.

Beth died at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. She was 57.

She was born on June 21, 1954, in New Richland, the daughter of A. Edward and Myrtle R. (Bolduan) Wesselhoeft. Beth attended Matawan grade school and graduated from Freeborn High School with the class of 1972. She continued her education graduating from Southwest State University in Marshall, MN in 1976.

Beth had worked at the New Richland Star, Sun Review-Waseca, Waseca County News, Casino Magazine, Carlson Craft in Mankato, then Bagy Jo 2 in Janesville, retiring in 2008.

Beth lived with her mother in New Richland until her mother’s passing in 1999. Beth moved to Whispering Oaks in Ellendale in 2008.

She is survived by cousins in New Richland and the Morton, MN area.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Lulu Margaret (Pat) Proehl Hall, 97

Lulu Margaret (Pat) Proehl Hall, 97, of Paris, Mo, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home in Paris, Mo.

Mrs. Hall was born on September 27, 1914 at New Richland, Minn., the daughter of Fred Carl and Lulu Paulina Kroeger Proehl.  She graduated from New Richland High School in Minnesota and taught school until she was married to Roy Arvid Hall on June 12, 1937, in New Richland, Minn.  He predeceased her on Nov. 12, 2002.  She and her husband moved to Holliday from the Quad Cities in 1950.  She was an active 4-H leader both local and county, a member of the Holliday Suburbonite Extension Club, and the Paris Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School  for several years.  She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women on both local and district levels.  

Mrs. Hall is survived by a son, Arvid E. Hall and wife, Noreen, of Dallas, TX., a daughter, Margaret L. Ferrell of Kirksville; four grandchildren, Arvid C. Hall, Tamara L. Kotzker, Bryan D. and Nathan H. Ferrell; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Hall, Raleigh and Elijah Kotzker.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Leonard and Gerhardt, one sister, Mildred Miller, a grandson, Roy Otto Hall and a son-in-law, Dale Ferrell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Paris Presbyterian Church in Paris with Reverend John Grimmett officiating and Agnew Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Paris, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Walnut Grove Cemetery or the Paris Presbyterian Church.
