Everyone is invited to come out to the country for a run or walk you will truly enjoy.

The 2nd Annual Harvest Run For Hunger will be held Saturday, September 17th. The Harvest Run will provide participants a great opportunity to enjoy some beautiful scenery, as well as get to know some great people. It will also provide the opportunity to raise money to support local food shelves and those that require the much needed help that these services provide.

Last year’s participants, sponsors and volunteers made a difference in the lives of many people in Steele and Waseca counties, and it is hoped that this year’s event will be bigger and better.

A total of 122 walkers and runners participated the first year of the event, and all of the participants concluded their walk/run by 11 Saturday morning. The donations received last year were given to help people in Ellendale, New Richland, Owatonna and Waseca.

The Harvest Run for Hunger, which is hosted by Zion Lutheran, Pontoppidan Lutheran, St. Paul’s Lutheran Churches and First Lutheran Church of Hope, consists of a 7K run, a 4K walk, as well as a new event, a youth run for children 10 years and younger, which is 400 meters in length.

The race takes place mostly on asphalt, but a small portion does take the participants on gravel through a scenic, wooded area. The Harvent Run For Hunger will begin at Zion Lutheran Church, 7126 SW 92nd Street, rural Ellendale, and concludes at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. Transporation shuttles will be provided at the end of the race to return the participants to the start location.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register, and they can obtain a registration form by accessing the link at www.harvestrunforhunger.com. The entry fee for the 4K walk is $20, while the entry fee for the 7K run is $25 if they are purchased before September 3rd. All fees increase by $5 after September 3rd.

Those who pre-register will be given a Harvest Run For Hunger T-shirt.

Registrations will be taken on race day begining at 7.

Registration for the youth run will take place on race day only and that will be held from 7:30 to 7:50 at Zion Lutheran Church.  The youth run is open to any child 10 years old and younger. There is no fee for the youth run.

All participants must meet at Zion Lutheran Church 30 minutes prior to the start of their event. Walkers should be at the church no later than 8 a.m. and runners should be at the church no later than 8:30. Walkers will be transported to the Town Hall to begin the 4K walk between 8- 8, and at 9 the rRunners will begin the 7K run at the Zion Lutheran.

There will be one water station available at approximately the halfway point for the 7k run.

Awards will be presented to both male and female participants in several age groups.

Participants, as well as supporters, are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, as well as monetary donations. If you are unable to attend, monetary donations should be sent to Harvest Run For Hunger, P.O. Box 64, Hope, MN 56046.
