Swearingen again asked the council if they could hire a part-time helper for him when he does the tile work. The clerk then advised the council about certain procedures the city must follow when hiring someone. After some discussion, the council asked Swearingen to write up some job descriptions and give them to Clerk Louks, who then will ask legal council about the hiring.
Other items brought before the council:
Dailey was given the floor to discuss property he owns by the freeway. Dailey asked the council for some guidance on variances. Dailey told the council he may have some interest in acquiring more land to add to his. Dailey wanted to know if the variances would hold true to the new property. The council informed Dailey the variance he has currently is for the property he owns; any further acquisitions would be subject to other hearings and variances. The council asked Dailey to put together a plan and bring it to a future meeting for the council to review. Dailey said he would try and have something ready for the councils’ next meeting.
A resident from the Country View Estates stopped by the meeting to express his concern about the road. He told the council a lot of gravel was washing into the culvert and was hoping something could be done. The council will get some bids on how to fix the situation and proceed from there.
The council updated the job description for the position of Water/Waste Water Supervisor. Clerk Louks told the council the new description will be sent to the state as part of an update for the job equity. The council approved the new job description.
The council moved to accept the resignation of Linda Zvorak as Municipal Liquor Store custodian. Linda’s resignation will be effective June 30.
Acting Mayor Groth brought up some work that needed to be done on 8th Ave. The road is being undercut by water that is running behind the curb. The council instructed Swearingen to get prices for approximately 400 feet of tile and talk with the homeowners to get their consent. Swearingen will get the prices for the next meeting.
Clerk Louks had only one extra item for the evening. Louks was asked by the Fire Department if anything could be done where the one tanker sits east of the Fire Hall. The tanker is currently sitting in the driveway, which needs a little more rock or fill. The council felt that maybe after the work is done on 8th Ave., there might be some extra rock left over to use in the driveway.
During open discussion, Councilman Goebel gave a Municipal Liquor Store update. The council approved the purchase of a new holding bin for the ice machine. The council also approved the purchase of a new ice scoop.
The next meeting of the Ellendale City Council will be June 23 at 7:30 p.m.
