Area residents invited to April 21 event

In celebration of the rebuilding of the pipe organ at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland, there will be an organ recital at the church on Sunday, April 21, at 1 p.m., presented by distinguished musician, Marilyn Schempp of Sioux Falls, S.D. Area residents are invited to attend! The pipe organ was rebuilt in 2012 by the Rutz Organ Co. of Morristown, Minn.

Schedule for the day:

• 10:30 am: Worship service

• 12 noon: The public is invited to enjoy a fundraising roast beef dinner at the church.

• 1 pm: Organ recital which will include organ solos, organ duets, and organ and brass arrangements, featuring Eric and Christopher Knutson on trumpets and Daniel Knutson on the euphonium.

The featured organist, Marilyn Schempp, received her Bachelor’s degree in both vocal and instrumental music from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and a Masters of Music in Organ Performance with additional coursework in piano from the University of South Dakota. While maintaining a private piano studio in her home, Marilyn teaches organ and piano at Augustana College and also is the chapel organist.

At Our Savior’s Lutheran, she is the Assistant Music Director and Principal Organist. As a performer, Marilyn has played solo organ recitals and has played oboe, piano, harpsichord, and organ with the South Dakota Symphony.

Eric and sons, Christopher and Daniel, often provide special music for church worship festivals in the Sioux Falls, S.D., area. Individually they have performed in a variety of ensembles. They are descendants of Han O. Sunde, founding member of LeSueur River Lutheran Church.
