Police Chief Scott Eads reported 59 calls for service and 32 additional calls for the month of March. There was one felonious crime reported which was later determined unfounded. Eads mentioned the recent lockdown reported at NRHEG.
“This disturbance did not involve any students directly,” said Eads. “A party has been charged regarding this incident.”
Trent Fast from the accounting firm of LarsonAllen presented an overview of the recently completed audit of the New Richland Care Center. During the years ended September 30, 2010, 2009 and 2008, the Care Center experienced operating losses of $37,035, $36,708 and $101,032, respectively. The losses are the result of declines in occupancy, increases in the cost of providing resident care, and staffing challenges. Manangement continues to manage operating expenses, evaluate billing and has reduced beds in an effort to increase reimbursement and better staffing costs. The Care Center incurred costs of around $340,000 for repair, replacement and clean up following the September 2010 flood. Federal disaster funds are forthcoming but have yet not been received. Fast is performing a mini-audit for the months of October 2010-February 2011.
Care Center Administrator Mikenzi Hebel announced she is gathering quotes for flood insurance since New Richland has joined the National Flood Insurance Program. Hebel informed the council the whirlpool tub at the center is in need of replacement. Total cost is expected to be $19,000. Hebel will apply for several grants
