Letters to the Editor:

To the Editor:

A very generous anonymous donation of $1,500.00 was made recently to the NRHEG Band.  The Band Boosters along with band director, Tim Siewert would like to wholeheartedly thank the donor!   This donation along with various fundraising activities this spring & summer afforded the opportunity to purchase and completely pay for a new set of drums for the marching band.  Thanks to all who helped make that possible!

The Band Boosters would also like to thank everyone who sponsored, participated, & attended the Dairyland Celebrity Donkey Races at the Waseca County Fair on Wednesday July 11.  This was a new fundraiser for us this year and it was a lot of fun!!  We learned some things along the way and if this becomes an annual event we've got some ideas to get more people involved & make it even better.

Our band relies heavily on fundraising activities to make purchases of new equipment and they are the only source of funding for the bi-annual trip that the band makes to perform in a bowl game over winter break.  The boosters schedule several fundraisers throughout the year that we hope you'll participate in.  If you would like to make a donation you may send a check payable to NRHEG Band Boosters to the high school at any time. We realize that there are many ways you can spend your hard earned dollars and truly do appreciate whatever you choose to share with the band.

Feel free to join us at our monthly booster meetings during the school year!

Thank you for supporting the NRHEG Band!

Band Booster officers:

Lori Arnold - Co-President

Jen Grothem - Co-President

Karen Nafe - Treasurer

Julie Anderson - Secretary

To the Editor:

On Sunday, July 9th, the Steele County Historical Society (SCHS) held its 26th Annual Extravaganza. Despite the previous week’s heat and humidity, we had a great day with lots of visitors to our beautiful Village and History Center! Our thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed the day with us!

Due to space constraints we are unable to individually thank everyone in this letter, but all of us at SCHS want to express our gratitude to everyone that made this day a great success! Without the demonstrators, cake bakers, volunteers, and entertainers we just wouldn’t be able to host the event and make it the special historical “Extravaganza” that it is.  Many thanks, too, to everyone that participated in, and helped with our Tractor Show, and to the Owatonna FFA Chapter for their assistance. Thank you to the City Park and Rec Department for all their help bringing in picnic tables, bleachers, and other items, and also to the County, the Steele County Free Fair, and Senior Place for their in-kind donations of services and staff, and to the local media for their help promoting this event. We especially want to thank the Noon Rotary Club for their assistance helping to staff our food stand. Vintage Baseball was back again this year My sincere thanks to the Rochester Roosters team; and to the Senior Place players and the Randall Electric team for help and participation. A new feature this year was an Artisan Market inside the History Center-our thanks to the vendors who came and shared their beautiful items with us!

A special thank you is necessary to our sponsors for their continued support of this event. Thank you to: Central Valley Co-op, Culver’s, Einhaus, Mattison, Carver, & Haberman Law Office, Federated Insurance, Gandrud Foundation, Smith, Tollefson & Rahrick Law Office, ERA Gillespie Real Estate, Legacy Signs, Owatonna Shoe, R&K Electric, Steele Waseca Electric Co-op, TPS Insurance, Tri-M Graphics, Wenger Corporation, Viracon, Larry’s Liquor, Rocon Inc., Rent N’ Save, Johnson & Doerhoefer PA, Ag Power, SPX, Jump Around Party Rentals, Randall’s License Bureau, Brian Wayne/Pioneer Seeds,  D&M Construction, and the Owatonna Park & Rec Department

On Saturday we hosted our Chuck Wagon Supper. Our thanks to everyone that came and enjoyed the evening with us, and a special thank you to our sponsor, Cashwise Liquor for their donation of the root beer, and to Lonesome Ron for his wonderful music!

The public’s continued support of SCHS and our activities is especially heartwarming to us, and we truly appreciate your attendance at this important fundraiser. You are all a part of our local history. It is the people, their stories, and our interconnections that are the threads that woven together become the fabric of our past, each one bringing a unique aspect to the larger story that is ours to tell. Again, many, many, thanks to everyone that made this special day a success for us!

My continued thanks and appreciation to our dedicated Board of Directors who go above and beyond in sharing their love of Steele County history  with everyone, and to my co-workers, Dodie Ellingson, Char Ost, and Daniel Moeckly for all their help and support!

Most Sincerely,

Laura Resler, director
