When people in the New Richland area think of Farm and City Days, they usually picture Main Street closed off and filled with games, rides, and concessions.

It’s the one weekend of the year when everyone gathers together to go out and have fun with their friends and family, take their children on rides, attempt to dunk the local resident in the dunk tank, or try their luck at a ring toss game.

But what is a carnival without any carnival rides or games?

The members of the New Richland Farm and City Days committee had to get a little creative with planning the festivities this year. Unable to book a carnival for the weekend of July 6-8, they had to find another way to keep people entertained.

Instead of the usual carnival rides, they will be using huge inflatables, including things like a bouncy house, a slide, water wars, and more in order to entertain kids of all ages, from toddlers to 14-year-olds. Parents can pay $10 for a wristband for their child, which will give them access to the inflatables, games, food, face painting, crazy hair, and prizes. There will also be a performance by the Rad Zoo in the park, which will be open to the public.

There are also plenty of other activities planned for the weekend.

Instead of the usual New Richland Idol, this year people are asked to join New Richland’s Got Talent. Essentially a big talent show, this event will allow everyone to participate, not just those who can sing. Contestants must be from the surrounding area, and a DJ will be available to those who choose to perform a musical act.

The street dance will be held on Saturday, and will feature the band IV Play.

Along with everything else, there will still be a medallion hunt, pancake breakfast, amazing race, , dunk tank, concessions on Main Street, the parade, kiddie parade, cheer performance, and tractor pull. A movie will be played in the park on Friday night at 10 p.m. They will be featuring Big Miracle, and popcorn will be provided.

There’s no doubt about it the fair just won’t be the same this year, but there are many people working very hard to make it special. It will still be a fun weekend for everyone, parents and kids alike. It will definitely be worth going to and enjoying the festivities of the weekend.

Although it’s not the same as previous years, Farm and City Days is still here for everyone to enjoy.
