The employees at Associated Lumber Marts in Waseca celebrate their customers every day.

But, this week in particular, this well-established company is making sure every last one of them knows just how appreciated they really are.

“Any company that can survive 50 years in the business climate should count their blessings,” said co-owner Brad Wendland.

Co-owner John Snow added, “Associated Lumber Marts actually started in 1959, so we are actually celebrating the fact that it’s been family-owned since 1962.”

This past Monday, their customer appreciation week kicked off with the distribution of 200 Kennedy half dollors.

“All week long, bring in a Kennedy half to redeem 50 percent off an item of $10 or less,” said Katie Dumdei, their Home Design Gallery Division Manager. “If you have one of your own at home, that will work too.”

Every morning, the celebration continues with a round of coffee, juice and donuts. Then, on Saturday, they invite customers for a “big lunch” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“There will be hotdogs, chips and cake,” Dumdei said. “Country 103.5 will be doing a live remote from here as well.”

All week long anyone that enters this one-stop shop will receive 19.62 percent off any item in the store. Pieces in the bargain shed including windows, doors and cabinets are included in this festive offer.

“Associated Lumber Mart can handle all your lumber, siding and shingles needs,” Wendland said. “Our Home Design Gallery, which became an official entity in 2005, covers all your interior selections. Then, we can help them find some contractor bids with our third branch, ALM Builders.”

Any and every future homeowner project they will hold in the highest of regards. Respect and fair treatment are a big part of their vocabulary as well.

“We just have a lot of knowledge in the home industry,” Wendland said.

In other words, the stress involved with any house-related project, they eliminate.

“Here they don’t have to worry about driving all over the place to get what they want,” said Snow. “We can do as much or as little as a person needs. If you simply need the materials, we can help with that. We can also help you with design, drafting the blueprints, and finding bids.”

“Building a new house is like putting together a puzzle,” Snow said. “We help you find the perfect bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, great room and even outside view of your dream house.”

Special orders aren’t out of the question either. They will go to whatever length it takes to source a particular product.

Sometimes, facilitating those projects occurs well beyond the Minnesota state line. In years past, they have ventured into Wisconsin, North Dakota and Michigan and currently have projects in Iowa.

“We certainly appreciate the surrounding areas, but our geographic area is pretty large,” Wendland said.

They also take responsibility for the construction of many church additions, Latham place, AmericInn and Waseca Inn and Suites, just to name a few.

“I like to drive around and see what we have built,” Wendland said. “My kids are probably tired of it, but on Interstate 35 West we built a church in Lakeville. Every time we pass it, I say, ‘Hey we built that.’”

For the next 50 years and beyond, he hopes that many more joy rides like this will occur, all done in the name of family.

Said Wendland, “We treat our customers the way we want to be treated.”

Editor’s note: Since Star Eagle readers will have missed the Kennedy half dollar giveaway, they can bring in this article and ALM will give them a Kennedy half dollar.
