One year after a tornado tore through Hartland, devastating a number of prominent businesses, Arcadian Bank is well on its way toward rebuilding.
Formerly called Farmers State Bank of Hartland, the bank has existed on 601 North Broadway in Hartland since 1912. In January 2021, the name was changed to Arcadian, and on Dec. 15 of that same year, a tornado took off most of the wall on the southwest corner of the bank, causing the south wall to buckle, and cracking the brickwork on the north side of the building. “The assessment of the insurance company was that, in theory, the basement was still sound, but that everything from the first floor up had to come down,” said Mark Heinemann, president of Arcadian, who has been associated with the bank for the last 18 years.

A vacuum cleaner…an air fryer…When it comes to Valentines Day gifts, Sara Meihak has to admit her husband, NRHEG Superintendent Michael Meihak, isn’t particularly romantic. “It’s more a matter of getting me something I need, but spending more on it than I would myself,” she says. “Some people might say they’re too practical, too useful.
“But I think they’re just right.”
Well, except for that one time. The set of exercise weights went over like, if you’ll forgive the wordplay, a lead balloon.

More than a hundred family, friends, students, and area residents attended the NRHEG One-Act productions of “Clemson Bartholomew,” by David J. LeMaster, and “Ignoble Death,” by NRHEG’s own Deb Bently, on Saturday Feb. 4, 2023.
The performances were co-directed by teachers Solveig Sundblad and Deb Bently.
The evening’s opening performance was the first and only showing of “Clemson Bartholomew.” The 10 cast and crew members of this humorous farce presented business as usual at the “All News All the Time” network where, despite a brewing crisis in the middle east, the newscaster chooses to focus on the rumor that pop icon Clemson Bartholomew may (or may not) be dead.
The feature performance for the evening was the NRHEG 2023 contest play, “Ignoble Death.”
