NRHEG junior Hallie Schultz admits that, ever since seeing information about “Letters of Love” on social media, she has been looking for an opportunity to contribute. The Minnesota organization receives cards and letters from volunteers and distributes them to children who are in the hospital or who are battling long-term illnesses.
Schultz suggested card-making as an activity for the NRHEG Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club. About 25 students regularly attend this group’s Wednesday morning meetings (called “huddles”), and so adult leaders Judy Tweeten and Ronda Staloch acquired the needed materials and made them available not only during the Feb. 1 morning huddle, but also during the school day through Thursday afternoon, inviting anyone interested to contribute their talents. The resulting 90 cards were gathered and sent off to Letters of Love last week, in time to be distributed for Valentines Day.
“This is a really good way to show we care and share our strengths,” comments Schultz. “It was fun making the cards with my friends, and really neat knowing we were doing it for someone it could really help.”
