The NRHEG cross country teams traveled to Janesville for a 4800-meter trial Thursday, Sept. 29.

Blue Earth Area’s boys topped the field with 34 points. WEM/JWP scored 35, NRHEG 60.

For the Panthers: Ben Lewer, fourth, 18:42; Josh Fleming, fifth, 18:48; Kollin Reese, 15th, Jager Beck, 17th, 22:35; Orin Mely, 18th, 25:32.

“Ben had a great race,” said coach Mike Weber. “Ben and Josh have been putting in solid practices and you can see their efforts paying off on the course. It was nice seeing both in the top five. Kollin continues to run well and keeps lowering his times. Jager and Orin also made the top 20. The team score doesn’t necessarily reflect the nice job they did tonight. The boys ran well overall.”

NRHEG wins third straight at GFW

NRHEG football coach Dan Stork was concerned heading into last Friday’s game at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop. The Panthers did not practice Thursday, instead spending the day sandbagging and helping New Richland recover from the flood.

It didn’t take them long to ease Stork’s mind.

Sam Prigge hit Cole Staloch with a 65-yard touchdown pass on their first play from scrimmage and the Panthers steamrolled to a 58-8 conquest at Winthrop.

“I was concerned how we would perform,” said Stork, whose squad improved to 3-1 with its third straight victory.

“It was a very quiet bus ride,” said Stork. “The guys were tired, but they came out strong and dominated all aspects of the game.”

The NRHEG volleyball team had its version of the NFL’s bye week, and entered it on a winning note.

The Panthers swept JWP 3-0 at Janesville Monday, Sept. 19, their last match until tonight’s Gopher Conference clash at Waterville. They won 25-21, 25-14, 25-20.

“The girls played really well,” said coach Onika Peterson. “We had talked beforehand that we needed to have confidence coming into the game, getting in the right mindset that we could get a win tonight.”
