WENDELL JOSEPH ARMSTRONG, age 82 of Waseca, died unexpectedly following a short battle with cancer on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at his home. 

Born on July 22, 1940, in Waseca to Benjamin and Agnes (Root) Armstrong. Wendell received his education at Waldorf Public School, graduating with the class of 1958. In 1961, he enlisted into the Army National Guard where he served for 6 years. On August 1, 1964, Wendell was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Swenson at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf. Together they made their home on the farm in Wilton Township, Waseca County while raising a family of five children. Wendell and Ruth continued to live on the farm up until this past year when they moved into town. 

Daryl James Billing, 61, lifelong resident of New Richland, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Mayo Health Systems Clinic in Mankato.

Born on March 2, 1961 in Waseca, he was a son of Robert and Harriet (Anderson) Billing. A 1979 graduate of New Richland-Hartland High School, Daryl worked at Freeborn Lumber and most recently Cargill Feed & Nutrition in New Richland. A past member of the New Richland Sportsman Club, Daryl was a friend to many and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horticulture. With his love of the outdoors, Daryl grew bountiful vegetable gardens each year, and proudly shared his harvest with his family and friends.

GARY “ERNIE” E. BAUMAN, age 74 of Waseca, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at his home in Waseca.

Born in Waseca on September 6, 1948, to George E. C. and Lois C. (Yess) Bauman. He graduated from Waseca High School. Following his education, Gary worked various construction jobs. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and gathering with his friends and family.

Gary is survived by his children, Trisha (Jay) Meinke of Nebraska, Katie (Mike) Ziemke Roeller of Lakeville, Christopher (Amanda) Bauman of Colorado; siblings, Orlin Bauman of Waseca, LaVoy Bauman of Waseca, Harlan Bauman of Waseca, Georgette Hanson of New Richland; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lois Bauman; son, Jody Just; brothers, Eugene Bauman, Marlyn Bauman; sisters, Arlene Carlson, Diane Bartelt; niece, Pam Vaughan; and nephew, Mike Root. 

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Otisco Cemetery, with Pastor John Omans officiating. Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.  dennisfuneralhomes.com

 Craig Alan Goette, 69 of New Richland passed away at his home on October 29, 2022.

Craig was born on Feb. 28, 1953 to Marvin & Marcella (Hansen) Goette in Albert Lea, MN. He was raised on the family farm near New Richland. He was baptized & confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Richland. He attended & graduated from New Richland High School in 1971. Following graduation he worked at various garages in New Richland. He was married, but later divorced. 

Craig moved to Albert Lea where he worked for North American Label for nearly 20 years before moving back to New Richland and opening his own business, New Dimension Label. He was also the manager at the American Legion in New Richland for a short time.

Mark Eugene Christenson, 68, of Hartland, MN passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 23, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus in Rochester, MN.

Mark was born on March 14, 1954 to Dale and Joyce (Turner) Christenson in Albert Lea, MN. He attended and graduated from Albert Lea schools. Following his graduation, he entered the workforce. On October 27, 1989 he married his love, Jeanne Kormann, at Cross of Glory Church in Hartland, MN. Together they made Hartland their home where they raised their daughter Tabatha.
