Orland was born on Easter Sunday morning April 12, 1925 in Story City, Iowa.  Orland attended country school in rural Freeborn County.  In 1946 he joined the Army-Air Force and served in Yokohama, Japan as a heavy equipment operator.  He was honorably discharged in 1948.  Following military service he drove milk truck, worked for Madison Trucking, and then, for 36 years, drove semi-trucks cross country for Streaters of Albert Lea.

On June 19, 1949, Orland was united in marriage to LaVonne Berg.  They spent several years in Albert Lea and then moved to their farm north of Hartland, where the family spent many happy years.  Orland loved his farm and was a handy man who enjoyed working on projects.  He found his vocation and life’s purpose in hard work and caring for his family.  In 2010 Orland and LaVonne sold the farm building site and returned to Albert Lea.  Orland was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Cross of Glory Lutheran Church of Hartland.  He and LaVonne enjoyed some travel in their retirement but just simply cherished being at home together. A highlight for them was to twice visit relatives in Norway.

LaMoyne passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at St, Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on March 7, 1934 in Albert Lea, MN. He was 89 years old.

He attended Alden-Conger School and graduated in 1952. He married Marjorie (Baumgartner) on October 9, 1954 at Concordia Pickeral Lake Church, where he was also baptized and confirmed. They spent 68 happy years together.

They made their life together farming and he was a dedicated farmer and retired in1998. After retiring, they spent many winters in Mission, Texas living at the Wagon City North Park.

Michael Clifford Weydert, age 92, died April 18, 2023 in New Richland, MN. The son of Michael and Josephine (Weber) Weydert, Mike was born March 31, 1931 in Waseca, MN. He attended New Richland schools and then Mankato State College for one year. He, his sisters and parents attended All Saints Catholic Church, and it was there he spotted a pretty young woman named Jeanie Staloch who was visiting with her brother. He asked after her name and got her home phone number. Within a year, they were engaged. They married on May 21, 1952 in Wells, MN and were together until Jeanie’s death in 2020 after sixty-eight years of marriage. They had seven children and raised their family on a farm south of Hartland, MN. Mike was proud to be a farmer. He enrolled in the Southern MN Farm Business Management Course for many years. He was a big proponent of ridge-till farming, a form of conservation tillage, and would expound on its benefits to anyone who would listen. With skills in wood working and welding, he could make or fix anything out of wood or metal. He designed and built their log home in 2006 on the land where he was born. At All Saints Catholic Church, he served on the pastoral council, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and managed Calvary Cemetery for many years. Before he died, every child and grandchild was given a nativity crèche which he designed and built out of dogwood twigs. It will be a precious keepsake.

Bonnie Lea Bakken, 82, of Bemidji, MN, formerly of New Richland, MN passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022.

Bonnie was born October 26, 1940 in Minnesota Lake, MN, the daughter of Vera (Fountain) and Herbert Culbertson.  She graduated from Minnesota Lake in 1958.  She married Maynard Paul Bakken on April 4, 1959 in Wells, MN.  Together, they began farming and raising a family on a farmstead near New Richland, MN.

The youngest of ten children, she was surrounded by family that loved to sing together, joke, and tell stories of their childhood growing up on the farm.  A Culbertson family reunion or holiday gathering usually meant meeting at a community center in order to have enough space to host the large and boisterous gatherings.

John Patrick McCrady, 70 years of age, passed away surrounded by family and music on April 3rd, 2023 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

He is survived by daughter Grace (husband Tom), stepson Matthew, grandchildren Asher, Chase, Logan and Sylvie, siblings Mary, Thomas, Mike and Ann and many other beloved family members.
