All members of the Geneva City Council convened for their December meeting, held last Tuesday at 7 p.m. Mayor Steve Bailey called the meeting to order and announced the first order of business.

After perusing the paperwork, Councilman Janell Tufte made a motion to approve the meeting minutes, financial report and bills payable. Adjacent Councilman Rich Weckwerth quickly seconded, with the motion carrying.

The second order of business was soon underway once Bailey welcomed Alliant Energy representative Bob Danner to the table to once again review Geneva’s new electrical contract and gas franchise agreement. After their second read-through, Tufte made a motion to adopt the 20-year electrical contract with a 10-year window timeframe. Councilman Jim Beenken seconded and it carried.

All present also witnessed the gas franchise agreement approved by Weckwerth and seconded by Councilman Taff Worrell. The gas contract outlines the same parameters, 20 years with a 10-year window.

After Bailey put pen to two signatures, Danner closed the matter by offering his appreciation for renewing both agreements. Before exiting the room, he wished all present a safe and happy holiday season.

Discussion soon transitioned to any late items needing resolution. Worrell double checked with city maintenance man Steve Nielsen to make sure the snowplow’s kinks had all been worked out. Nielsen jokingly reported that there are no problems whenever it’s not in use.

Bailey and all councilmen then discussed the issue of a Geneva citizen parking his/her car out on the street during snowplow operations. After much exploration of the matter, City Clerk Nancy Cornelius decided it best to send a letter to said person, stating that the flat-tired automobile simply must remain in the driveway, no matter the weather conditions.

Cornelius’ letter will also note that with its expired license tabs, the vehicle may never be parked on the street, unless renewal of registration occurs.

Fire Chief Greg Bartsch then chimed in with news of an appreciation event to be held on January 2 from 4-6 p.m. for Clarks Grove’s retiring Chief Anderson. All those desiring to express their thanks for Anderson’s service can do so then.

Twenty or so minutes in, Tufte made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Worrell seconded and all were in favor. Their next meeting will be held January 10, 2012 at 7 p.m.
