11-32 — Certifying delinquent property charges to be collected with 2012 property taxes in the amount of $4,242.04.
Police Chief Scott Eads reported 68 calls for service and 33 additional contacts for the month of November with no serious crimes reported. Eads requested permission to order a 2012 Chevrolet Impala to replace the existing squad car at a cost of $20,918.95. There will be some additional costs for uninstalling and installing equipment from the present car. The amount of $2,500 will be earmarked for a new radar unit. After discussion, the council approved the purchase. Eads mentioned there were 15 administrative citations handed out for parking during snow removal.
Care Center Administrator Mikenzi Hebel presented the financial reports for October and November, which were approved. Hebel announced the Care Center’s Christmas party is scheduled for December 22 at 2 p.m.
Hebel requested and received approval of a new EZ Stand resident lift at a cost of $3,738 with funds coming from the gift and memorial fund. The new resident whirlpool tub is on the way and should be installed by December 20. A company representative will be on hand to conduct training for the care center staff.
Hebel also announced the center’s annual audit will begin this week and current census is 50 residents.
Mayor Tom McShane closed the public hearing for the city budget and the council approved Resolution 11-28, which adopts the 2012 budget.
Fire Chief Jeremy Parpart provided an application for prospective fire fighter Andrew Peterson. Peterson is an instructor at NRHEG School. Required fire fighter training is scheduled for three members of the department at a cost of $3,300. New cell phones for both the fire department and ambulance service were approved.
The council decided not to hold discussion on water and sewer rates for next year. A proposal from Utility Services for a maintenance agreement on the city water tower was tabled until more information could be obtained.
The council accepted a $200 cash donation from Council member Wynnemer for the purchase and shipping of a new hockey goal for the skating rink, with the city paying for the other one.
Finally, the council adopted a policy on how fund balances are to be handled and maintained.
This was the final meeting of 2011 for the New Richland City Council. The next meeting is scheduled for January 9, 2012 starting at 6:30 p.m.
