New Richland City Council

By JODY WYNNEMER

Staff Writer

There weren’t many items on the evening’s agenda as the New Richland City Council assembled for their second meeting of October Monday evening. All members were present as Mayor Tom McShane called the meeting to order. The council approved the evening’s agenda.

The approved consent agenda consisted of only two items, the accounts payable and a pay request for $1,500 from the Minnesota Valley Action Council for senior citizen transportation.

The council next adopted three resolutions, notably:

• 11-24 — $750 cash from the New Richland United Fund for the ambulance service and another $150 cash from the NRUF for the fire department to be split equally between the general and rural fire funds.

• 11-25 — Transferring $4,710 from the General Fund to the EDA Fund and $3,000 from the General Fund to the Historic Preservation Fund.

• 11-26 — Certifies delinquent property charges to be collected with 2012 real estate taxes. The amount is $3,036.79.

Ryan Nissen presented an abbreviated maintenance department report. He had researched the possibility of having street sweeping contracted out as per a council member’s inquiry. No price estimates have been obtained thus far. Preparations for winter snow removal are complete, including sand and salt inventories. The concrete slab for the storage shed has been poured. Nissen announced the alley approach downtown behind the New Richland Liquor Company is scheduled to be revamped in the next two weeks.

The city received two proposals for audit services. LarsonAllen and Abdo, Eick & Meyers were the only firms which responded to a proposal request. The council tabled any action until the next meeting.

Brad Field from PeopleService presented his report on Waste Water Treatment Facility operations.

“The new lift station on 3rd Street is in,” said Field. “As soon as the pump and electrical panels arrive, they will be installed and start up performed.”

Field mentioned televising had been completed on the Dogwood Avenue sewer and he would be finished with solid waste spreading this week, weather permitting.

The last order of business was a request for a tree removal on the 100 block of Birch Ave. N. The property owner would remove the tree to allow room for a driveway. The council gave its approval.

The next New Richland Council meeting is slated for Monday, November 14, starting at 6:30 p.m.
