For NRHEG High School students, it’s time to dance again.

"I do not know the last time NRHEG had a homecoming dance," said Jennie Johnson. "It's been over eight years ago."

Jennie and her husband, Jeff, of rural new Richland, have stepped up and taken action to assure students that high school experience.

After the NRHEG homecoming football game on September 30, the Johnsons are hosting a "Homecoming Barn Dance," for students.

The Johnsons have secured additional insurance for the event. They’ve also made accommodations for parents during the dance. They have turned their three-stall garage into an informal parental meet and greet area.

"The parents’ social area will benefit both parent and student," said Jennie. “Parents who have to transport their child, because the student doesn't have a drivers license will have a place to stay until the festivities are over."

The Homecoming Barn Dance is not school affiliated, nor will drinking be permitted. It's an opportunity for students to socialize and create memories of their high school experience. The Johnsons have hired a DJ for the event.

The Johnsons welcome parents and students alike to participate in preparation for the dance. On September 28, they will be setting up, decorating, and doing general light cleaning. Everyone's assistance is encouraged.

This is an informal event. However, homecoming candidates and royalty dressed in formal attire would be greatly appreciated for photos.

Donations to offset the costs or sponsor the event are being accepted. If you have any questions, or would like to participate, contact the Johnsons at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or call Jennie at 507-475-1021.

Homecoming coronation will be on Monday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym. On Friday, September 30, events include a varsity cheerleaders pep fest in Ellendale at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the NRHEG High School gym. The homecoming parades begin at 12:30 p.m. in Ellendale and at 2 p.m. in New Richland.
