Hartland City Council

The Hartland City Council met the day after our country’s birthday with Mayor Routh and council member Laura Chicos absent. The evening’s agenda and June meeting minutes were both approved.

City fire chief Brandon Flatness reported the department responded to two calls. The ambulance has been repaired and is ready to be put up for bid. City Clerk Krueger informed the council that there have been complaints about the old fire truck sitting outside for such a long period of time. Flatness stated they can not move it without towing it. The department plans to list the ambulance and old fire truck for sale now that the ambulance is repaired.

The council discussed the sidewalk and curb repairs which need to be completed. Krueger informed the council that the insurance company is waiting for estimates to repair the curb and sidewalk from the fire hydrant claim. Council member Kyle Reed asked to be given a list of all the areas which need to be repaired; he will try to find someone who can repair the sidewalks.

The council discussed the repairs needed for the shutoff valves on Morin Street. Maintenance operator Andy Flatness explained the city’s water supply will need to be shut off to repair the valves. Clerk Krueger asked if they could schedule a day that the water would be shut off to make the necessary repairs and if it could be included in the next water bills. Flatness stated they would not be able to schedule a date due to unpredictable weather conditions.

Flatness reported that the tank on the iron filter has a hole in it. Currently, sand bags are keeping the water from flowing out of the tank. The only way to fix the tank is to replace it. The USDA/Rural Development has been contacted with hopes that they could move our paperwork through the system quickly, to obtain funding for this repair. Prices for the repair are coming in around $270,000. Reed has been talking with some of the people he works with on his tanks and will see if there is a less expensive fix.

The creamery well needs to be repaired. Flatness suggested new well casing. The council advised him to call Martin’s to get estimates for the repair.

The council approved the contract for Central Tank & Coating to replace the frost jacket on the water tower. The bills paid for the month of June and accounts payable were approved as presented.

Council member Reed was approved as an authorized signature for checks.
