The New Richland Legion Jazz Baseball Team starts sub-district tournament action this week as they host Dodge Center Monday night at 7 p.m. They managed to win only one of their last three regular season games.

Jazz 7, Blooming Prairie 5

David Lassahn went the distance on the mound for the Jazz when they visited BP on Tuesday, July 5. He scattered nine hits over seven innings, walked only two and struck out 13.

Johnny White went 2 for 4, Sam Lundberg, Kirby Butler, Matt Dahle, Eric Sorenson, Sam Jewett, Jake Staloch and Lassahn each had one hit a piece.

“David pitched an excellent game and the team really came through with some excellent hits,” said Jazz Coach Jon Meyer.

Stewartville 14, Jazz 4

The Jazz started out strong in the first on July 7 with Luke Meyer smacking a double and scoring on another double by Mitch Akemann. Stewartville answered back scoring a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-1 lead. The Jazz added three more runs on hits by Staloch, Lundberg and another double by Akemann to go up 4-2. Stewartville exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to put the game out of reach.

Lundberg started the game and lasted until the third. Nic Mangskau pitched three innings and Staloch pitched the sixth before the game was called.

Byron 11, Jazz 2

Playing three games in four days took a toll on the Jazz as they only mustered two runs when Byron visited last Friday night. Dahle and White each went two for three at the plate with Lassahn getting two hits in four appearances.

Lassahn started for the Jazz lasting into the fourth. Akemann and Staloch came out of the bullpen to finish.

“This was our third game of the week,” said Coach Meyer. “What few hits we had were too spread out to produce many runs.”
