Pastor Charles Espe had a little surprise up his sleeve for the people gathered at the annual Farm and City Days Breakfast Saturday morning at the NRHEG School Cafeteria.

Keeping with tradition, Espe always gives a few clues to everyone to see if they can guess who will be this year’s Grand Marshal of the Farm and City Days Parade.

“This year’s grand marshal wears many hats,” said Espe.

Espe called upon fellow man of the cloth Pastor Paul Andree to come forward to have him unwrap the plaque and reveal the name of this year’s selectee. Much to everyone’s surprise, it was none other than Andree himself who was selected to lead the parade.

Farm and City Days Parade Grand Marshals are selected from nominations sent in by individuals in the community. A special committee then selects the person or persons who receives the most nominations.

“You do wear many hats Paul,” said Espe. “The work you have done with the Food Shelf, the Lions Club, the Ministerial Association, and the countless other things. I know the community appreciates it. Thank you, Paul.”

Andree was quick to thank the entire community for his selection.

“It’s because of all of you who step up to the plate when I ask,” said Andree. “We all deserve this award.”

“Pastor Paul is so caring and community minded,” said Ginny Roesler, one of the people who nominated Andree. “He was instrumental in forming the food shelf at Trinity. He reaches out to the entire community, whether you belong  to his church or not. He has done the Blessing of the Bikes, and the Blessing of the Pets. He is such a caring person.”

Andree has been deeply involved with the New Richland Care Center having served on the Advisory Board. He also started a volunteer chaplaincy program at the facility.

“I would like to thank the Farm City Days Committee for honoring me as the Grand Marshal of the Parade,” said Andree. “It is humbling to hear such generous comments about me, particularly by people whom I respect so much. Today I am receiving an honor, but I could not have done so if it had not been for the support, energy and wisdom of the talented residents of our community. I thank, above all, my wife and family, for their support and love. I want to thank all those who have shared my vision. Mine is to provide people with some sort of shelter from their storm in life. Thank you again to the Farm City Days Committee for this award, and to all of you for your support and friendship.”
